Personality

The leader of Gradius and certainly the alpha male, Elias Jerico was a man easily consumed by a singular emotion - anger. Socially awkward to a fault, and subject to many pitfalls in life, Elias had dealt with it the only way he knows how - rage. He's raged at evil, his life, the world, the universe, but mostly himself. Since his association with Izumi Saotome and his various experiences with PARADIGM, Elias has become a much more balanced person, happy and passionate, intense and driven by self-improvement and a need to fight for justice and the 'right thing'. Elias remains a bright, capable leader with a calculating mind and an utter refusal to lose.

Background

On a planet in a dimension somewhere far, far removed from here, in a place known only as The End, a terrible, massive dimensional displacement occurred, dropping over one hundred people from various realities all over the cityscape. Three of those people were young teenage boys, crashing into an old, decayed restaurant and suffering serious head trauma, much to the surprise and dismay of the restaurant's owner, Darren Elway. The boys were left with severe amnesia, not knowing their pasts or where they came from, despite possessing unique, exceptional powers and abilities. Elway, seeing no other choice and fearful that they would be exploited for those powers, kept them as his own children.

The End itself was a cityscape that sprawled all over the planet it was on - it was a hive of wretches, of crime and of poverty, and one of the boys couldn't stand it. He didn't remember his name, so he took the alias Elias Jerico; it served. With the other two boys, Shannon Moore and Jimmy O'Toole, Elias formed Gradius - a small, always recruiting organization intent on cleaning up the streets and bringing justice to people that couldn't, becoming what he preferred to think of as 'the fists of the voiceless'.

Elias, Shannon and Jimmy were not alone in their fight - they were joined by a mysterious girl named Sabetha Weber, who attached herself nearly immediately to Elias, who had absolutely no experience with women and no defenses. He was instantly smitten, and their romance was an awkward but intense one, which fit him well. Sabetha was inquisitive about everything Elias did - about Gradius, about his abilities, even about his past.

She left suddenly and without much of an explanation, though Elias would later find that he wouldn't have liked it anyway - Sabetha Weber, the future Iteration One and an unwilling spy, was the daughter of Dietrich Weber, a man with designs to create the Ultimate Lifeform. It was, fortunately, at this point that Elias met the person that would change his life forever - Izumi Saotome, hired by Darren Elway through PARADIGM to set his son on the right path. Due to Sabetha's desertion, Elias initially looked on Izumi skeptically and with little trust, but after she proved time and time again that she was there to help, Elias - and the rest of Gradius - bonded with Izumi viscerally, taking the fight to The End. He became drawn to her, finding his passion and intensity finally in someone else that was focused on using it for the purest of motives.

And then Dietrich Weber made his move - by isolating Elias, he attempted to steal him away without any interference from the rest of Gradius...however, he could not have begun to predict Izumi's presence there. It was then that Izumi put two and two together - Elias's capture and conversion, in the reality she knew, led to the creation and 'birth' of Letty Carmichael, a good friend of hers. Undaunted, and refusing to sacrifice Elias, Izumi was able to snap Elias out of his distractions and chase off Dietrich. After a moment's reprieve, and with the lingering thought of his supposed potential as an Ultimate Lifeform in his mind, Elias stayed in the End as Izumi's mission was considered completed - he promised to see her again...

Some time later, Gradius received word of Izumi's supposed death, and Elias subsequently went ballistic, immediately leaving the End and joining PARADIGM with Shannon and Jimmy to fight her suspected killers, Inspiratio.

Already a creature of anger and intensity, Elias only retreated even further into his base emotions, often associated with a frown or punching away at a bag in the gym, consumed by rage, frustration, and sorrow. When a darker-haired Izumi (later revealed to be Izu Tendou) appeared at the Inn, he was overcome with relief - the assumed loss of memories of them didn't seem to bother him as it did many. When the ruse was revealed and the actual Izumi returns, Elias simply hugged her, the negativity draining from his body and soul.

From here, however, he was left without a focus - Inspiratio was scattered soon after, and with Izumi alive, Elias found himself restless. He was answered in the appearance of Eletian Carmichael, the alternate reality haywire clone of Letty Carmichael and, by extension, himself. Eletian wasted no time in getting attention, destroying the entirety of The End, with casualties numbering among 213,000, Darren Elway among them. Elias found himself unable to process all of his anger, the emotion he understood most and best, and sought therapy - this, along with the revival of The End by Sagiko Tsukino, helped Elias recover, as well as putting various other things into focus in his life that he hadn't thought of.

It was soon after this that Elias began to pursue Izumi romantically - she was now single, and Elias Jerico was never one to do anything halfway once he had an idea in his head. He was persistent and despite initially being rebuffed, eventually their feelings simply became too obvious for the other to ignore, and they began a relationship that changed Elias entirely; no longer consumed by rage, he was turned into a happy, bright-eyed defender of justice, with none of his intensity lost in the process.

Special Abilities

(These are skills, things that can be learned or trained, like martial arts techniques, Jutsu or magic spells. Abilities that are outside the norm of regular humans, but only because they have not had access to them.)

  • [White Wind] Elias cures the entire party equal to the amount of health he currently has. Undead creatures do not get healed, but take no damage - demons are healed as normal. Non-elemental.
  • [Mighty Guard] A powerful protective spell, Elias buffs the entire party with a magical wall that not only greatly strengthens their magical and physical defenses, but makes them move at an accelerated pace, doubling their speed.
  • [Oblivion Ring] A banishment spell designed to detain people, creatures, artifacts, and magical enchantments. When cast, the object or being disappears, and is represented by a symbol that resembles a circle writ in the air with mana. This ring then follows Elias around, containing the essence of the being or item within, which is frozen in time. If disenchanted, the ring shatters, and the occupant released. Can be resisted by powerful enemies that aren't weakened. (Namely, bosses.)
  • [Disenchant] Disenchant attempts to destroy a machine or magical enchantment outright with a simple thrust of mana.
  • [Force of Will] Utilizing all of his magical energy as well as his inner ki, Elias attempts to brute-force a spell out of existence during casting. If successful, the resulting stress causes him to be spent for a turn.
  • [Flare Up] - Utilizing his chakra, Elias can briefly unlock his full potential, causing his inner power to swirl around him and reinforcing his willpower, breaking any status effects or binding effects. Acts as a self-dispel. Does not heal.
  • [Dragon Soul] - Elias has learned to focus and channel his rage into chakra, upgrading his spell Berserker Soul into Dragon Soul. Dragon Soul locks Elias out of any spellcasting, but can be used to amplify his Sosetsuken techniques. His eyes glow red, and his melee strength increases *substantially*, equal to that of a werewolf or android, into the superhuman realm. Whenever Elias takes damage, his strength and endurance grow exponentially. If Elias doesn't take damage to increase his endurance, his body begins to deteriorate until he passes out. Only when no more hostiles are present will Dragon Soul's effects fade. An odd dragon tattoo similar - nearly exactly - to Eletian Carmichael's tattoo in Magius Mode goes across his back.

Sosetsuken Techniques - Elias possesses the knowledge of Sosetsuken, a style of Chinese kenpō.

  • [Ten Satsu Ryuuji Ken] (Heavenly Killing Dragon King Punch) - This secret technique is also known as the Hyper Uppercut due to its nearly supernatural speed. Delivered from a crouch, Elias thrusts his right fist up into a brutal uppercut, unlocking his inner ki at the same time to amplify the speed and damage, destabilizing an enemy's energy in turn. In effect, this attack deals considerable base damage, then amplifies in severity equal to the amount of spiritual/magical/chakra energy the opponent has.
  • [Ryuubi Ranbuu Kyaku] (Dragon Tail's Storm Wind Kick) - Also known as the Cyclone Kick. Simply put, Elias leaps into the air and kicks, then spins to take out multiple opponents in melee.
  • [Bakuma Ryuujin Kyaku] (Demon Exploding Dragon God Kick) - Also usable as a knee-based attack (which Elias prefers), this technique, like the Ten Satsu Ryuuji Ken, is performed from a crouch. From there, Elias leaps straight forward at an astonishing speed, driving his knee directly into an enemy's body.

Learned Techniques - Elias has learned a few things at PARADIGM.

  • [Armament Haki - Shockwave Strike]: Focusing their Haki into their strike, the PC can send out a shockwave version of their regular attacks. This allows them to hit targets from a distance from the sheer force of their attack, or slash through the air with a sword like there was no distance between them and their opponents, allowing them to hit flying or otherwise distant opponents. The range is relative (medium to semi-long), but PCs who use this ability can now deliver an impact equivalent to their regular strikes from a distance without losing any strength for it.
  • [Air Dance]: The ability to fly. The Air Dance allows the user to use their ki to fly, from basic levitation to full blown flight. The speed of flight and distance traveled depends entirely on the user's power level, with higher power characters being able to fly at phenomenal speeds, or almost break orbit. The limits of this ability are as follows.
    • Elias can fly at the same speed as he can move; there is no actual advantage to flying save moving on the Z axis of a field. Flying is not faster than movement.
    • Elias can do bursts of high speed flying, but only if he could do so on land. Most displacement techniques can be used in combination with flight, so after images, place trading and other evasion moves still work.
    • The Air Dance is more tiring than regular walking, and anyone without endless ki will get tired relatively quickly. It is not a suitable means to avoid getting in a vehicle or in any way faster, unless you're willing to drain your energy to get there first.
  • [Sense Ki]: The user becomes one with his surroundings, extending their aura to sense others. The stronger you are, the wider your range of sensory. This lets a user's sense for their own ki extend to others, allowing them to sense aura locations, as well as their general power level, in comparison to theirs. At the current level of training, Elias can generally sense powerful presences in their vicinity and gauge roughly how strong they are in comparison to him (weaker, even, stronger), and possibly by how much. This training also allows Elias to control his own power, allowing them to subsume it to have less of a presence and flare it up to maximum power with a short charge time.
    • Note: Alertness Roll Difficulty 9 to sense all ki in the general area (GM discretion). Ki control is left up to player's discretion but the lower you keep your power the weaker you actually are.
  • [Kamehameha] - The perfect ki attack. Kamehameha focuses the user's energy, all of it, into a single spot in their body, between their palms. After this, the user focuses for a moment, enhancing that energy attack almost astronomically, then unleashes it as a wave of power. The nature of the Wave of power allows the user to keep pumping more energy into it if necessary, and allows them to overwhelm lesser ki attacks, or even surpass relatively even one if they are willing to release more energy into it. Kamehameha hits like a force, but can be detonated on impact (at the cost of losing the Wave effect). Finally, the most important part of Kamehameha. It grows with the user. As the user becomes stronger and more adept at using ki, the Kamehameha becomes equally more powerful, having virtually no upwards limit.

Iron Will (5): You cannot be mind-controlled easily, and getting you to surrender is borderline impossible. When magical (or other) mind-control is attempted on you, both roll and you get a +3 bonus to your roll. It's possible to do it, but you'll fight it with every fiber of your being, and will not stay in thrall very long.

Loyalty (1 - Gradius): You are devoted to a person, group, or cause, and easily resist attempts to persuade you away from the object of your loyalty. Any attempts to make you betray this person/cause/whatever is done with an opposed roll where you get a +2 bonus. Again, like the code of honor, you must always be loyal to this person or risk losing this benefit. (Elias is more loyal to Gradius than anything else in the world.)

Burning Aura (2): Your aura is unusually brilliant; even people who can't read auras will be inexplicably drawn to you. Some may see you as a threat or a snack. (Elias Jerico is unique in that he has a particularly strong magical aura as well as a powerful chakra/chi/ki presence.)

Items Of Note

Kabuki Backpack: The Kabuki Backpack is a small backpack, perfect for carrying books, laptops or other easily carried things. Its main feature however, is the stuffed panda peeking its head out of the side, as if it were carrying a real live baby panda! The backpack's colors can be adjusted, but the panda will always be a panda. It gives you the stats Adorable: OMG and Sweetness: Awww.

Motorcycle: Custom made by Venus Highwind, Elias possesses a motorcycle that he is oddly skilled at driving. He doesn't know why he knows, but he just does.

Fingerless Fighting Gloves: A gift from Izumi, these gloves have armored fittings on the knuckles to add power to Elias's punches and suitable durability to his fists. As it was a gift from Izumi, Elias holds these very dear.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!

Amnesia (2): You have no memory of your past, or at least are missing a significant portion of it. (Like the rest of Gradius, Elias has no memory of before they met.)

Deep Sleeper (1): Waking up is hard; getting you moving is hard enough (-2 on all rolls to wake up), getting you comprehending what's going on after you're up isn't much easier (Your rolls in the next few minutes.. up to 30 minutes.. are at -1.)
