Sailor Senshi, as classic magical girl heroines, have both civilian and magical identities. Each Senshi has a transformation sequence which grants her a uniform in her own theme-colors and her own kind of elemental power; these powers come from an object called a "Sailor Crystal" (or Star Seed) said to be within each of them.
The most iconic and well-known Senshi, Sailor Moon, leads the primary group of Senshi in defending the Earth (or the galaxy, if necessary) from otherworldly threats. Officially, this team consists of eight people: Sailor Moon herself, Sailor Centauri, Sailor Procyon, Sailor Sirius, Sailor Vega, Sailor Betelgeuse, Sailor Altair, and Sailor Antares.

Background
Crystal Tokyo
Most of the Senshi, except for Sailor Neo Saturn, came from Crystal Tokyo. Through various means the girls were given their transformation wands by Phoebe. A few of the girls thereafter were invited to live at the Crystal Palace and remained with the Royal family until they were recruited by PARADIGM.
Uniform
The uniform worn by the Sailor Senshi resembles a popular style of Japanese school uniform, the sērā fuku or "sailor suit". The uniforms of the Senshi not only show their femininity, they "perform it excessively in frilly, girly fashion". As the Senshi gain additional powers and insights, the features of their uniforms change to reflect these advances. Most of them have unique traits to begin with such as earrings, brooches, and so on.

- Sailor Moon - The original, Usagi Tsukino. Later became Neo Queen Serenity of Crystal Tokyo.
- Sailor Chibi Moon- Usagi Tsukino the Second. Known as Neo Princess Serenity and then later became Queen.
- Sailor Mars - Known as Rei Hino. Guardian with the affinity of Fire.
- Sailor Mercury - Known as Ami Mizuno. Guardian with the affinity of Water.
- Sailor Venus - Known as Minako Aino. Guardian with the affinity of Love.
- Sailor Jupiter - Known as Makoto Kino. Guardian with the affinity of Lightning.
Outer Senshi
- Sailor Neptune - Known as Michiru Kaioh. Guardian with the affinity of Sea/Ocean.
- Sailor Uranus - Known as Haruka Tenoh. Guardian with the affinity of Land/Earth.
