The Turks (タークス) is the unofficial nickname of the Investigation Sector of the General Affairs Department of the World Regenesis Organization company on the Planet. They work inside the Department of Internal Affairs.

The Turks act similarly to an intelligence agency or investigative bureau, engaging in reconnaissance and espionage, or even black ops, including kidnappings and assassinations, on behalf of the corporation. The reputation of the Turks is that they are consummate professionals, adhering to the mission no matter what. Even if it means killing their family, they would still complete the job.

Due to the nature of their job, members of the Turks are privy to numerous company secrets and as such become security risks should they leave the company. This results in the reality that Turk members can only freely leave the company in a body bag.

Uniform and Mannerisms

In their first appearance, the Turks usually wore navy blue business suits and ties, however, in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII their suit color scheme changed to plain black.

The standard Turk uniform is a unisex business suit with matching tie, white undershirt and shoes. While this is the expected uniform, the degree at which it is worn is alieviated a little to allow minor reflections of the Turk's personality. For instance gloves are allowed to be worn, as well as glasses and minor jewellery. Some members also leave the suit jacket and shirt unbuttoned or alternate the type of footwear from the basic black boot to one more to their liking.

History

The Genesis War

During the time the war with AVALANCHE is going on, a few Turks are also ordered to aid in the battle against the defector SOLDIER Genesis Rhapsodos. Tseng aids Zack Fair in a mission to Genesis's hometown of Banora to investigate the disappearance of two unnamed Shinra operatives. They are found dead and buried. Tseng also accompanies Zack on a mission to Modeoheim, to try and find Genesis's headquarters and where he is making his copies. It is also shown during the game the Turks are keeping an eye on Aerith Gainsborough, the last known Cetra.

During the attack on Midgar Sector 8 the Turks are sent out to fight. During the attack Zack Fair saves Cissnei from Genesis Copies, and the two become friends. Cissnei allows Zack Fair to flee safely from Nibelheim following his escape from the Jenova Project, and further aids his attempt to return to Midgar. However, the Turks fail to save Zack from the Shinra army, though they do try to organize a rescue by helicopter.

Combatting AVALANCHE

Turks and Allies vs AVALANCHE

During the first AVALANCHE conflict, the Turks are led by Veld, with Tseng below him. Along with veterans such as Reno and Rude, the Turks are made up of eight rookies. These Turks fight AVALANCHE, a powerful eco-terrorist organization bent on destroying Shinra. At one point, President Shinra replaces Veld with Heidegger as the Turks' commander, which leads to disastrous results. Veld uses blackmail against President Shinra to make him return the Turks to his command.

During the battles, Veld discovers the AVALANCHE leader is actually his daughter, Felicia, who is twisted by her evil scientist lieutenant, Fuhito. To save Elfé from the ancient summon inside her, Zirconiade, the rookie Turks defect from Shinra using Rufus Shinra as leverage to stay safe. Even so, President Shinra orders Scarlet to kill off the Turks. Despite the threats from both Shinra and AVALANCHE, the Turks succeed in stopping Fuhito and destroying Zirconiade. Afterwards, Veld and his daughter, along with the rookie Turks, disappear. Tseng reports he "assassinated" them all, which allows him to become the new leader of the Turks.

The Nightmare

Turks when Meteor Fell.

Working for Shinra, the Turks come into conflict repeatedly with the party of Cloud Strife, who are working to save The Planet from Shinra's exploitation. They are ordered to capture Aerith Gainsborough, the last remaining Cetra and the only person who can lead Shinra to the Promised Land. Though they are led by Tseng, only Reno, Rude, and the new recruit Elena, actually directly fight with Cloud's party. The Turks also perform the operation that destroys Sector 7.

The Turks are sent into the Temple of the Ancients to investigate Sephiroth, President Shinra's murderer. During the mission Tseng is badly wounded by Sephiroth, and seemingly dead, though he actually survives and reappears in later sequels.

Though they are enemies, the Turks actually work together with Cloud's party in Wutai. Don Corneo, an enemy of both the party and Shinra, takes refuge in the village, but has not changed his lecherous ways. He kidnaps both Yuffie Kisaragi and Elena, but, working together, Cloud's party defeats Corneo's monster Rapps and the Turks kill him by throwing him off the Da Chao statue.

The last the Turks are seen in-game is during the chaos in Midgar following the explosion at Shinra Headquarters. The Turks this time are not very interested in fighting Cloud's party, and if the player has completed the Wutai sidequest, they can choose not to fight the Turks.

The Remnants

After helping Rufus escape the Shinra Headquarters ruins, Tseng has Rude, Reno and Elena assist the Midgar people escape however they can, before and after the Meteor falls. Veld and the player Turks from Before Crisis also return, and together the Turks all watch as Meteor is destroyed over Midgar. When Rufus is kidnapped by Mutten Kylegate, the Turks guard Shinra property in Midgar's ruins and change the passkeys to the warehouses to stop scavengers sent by Kylegate.

The remaining Turks together to oppose the Remnants.

When Kylegate is killed and Kilmister takes over caring for Rufus, the Turks follow written orders from Rufus to give Kilmister SOLDIER stimulants to assist his treatment with Geostigma. They also trail Kilmister to find Rufus, and under his direction while he is being treated, help with the construction of Edge outside of Midgar's ruins.

Because the Shinra empire has collapsed they are technically no longer Turks, although they continue to wear their Turk uniforms and work for their boss, former company President Rufus. They primarily serve as bodyguards, but they also aid Rufus in his mission to repay Shinra's debt for "putting the world into its current, pathetic state." Tseng and Elena are the ones to discover Jenova's remains in the Northern Cave, and afterward the Turks end up fighting against the Remnants of Sephiroth who want to retrieve Jenova's remains in order to resurrect Sephiroth. Reno and Rude even defeat Loz and Yazoo with a bomb, though the Remnants still manage to show up and nearly kill Cloud.

Reno expresses his surprise that so many of the old employees have returned to the President's call, though this is never elaborated on.

The After Years

After the World Regenesis Organization took over Shinra, the Turks have returned to their duties, but in a more protective and less sabotaging manner. They still act as intelligence, but mostly against disgruntled former Shinra employees and Deepground sympathizers. They have established a strong presence among the current Shinra organization, and have done a lot of work to keep sabotage and espionage to a minimum.
Working off the principles established by Tseng and his team, the new Turks have managed to keep Shinra mostly free of interior corruption and outside influence, as well as helping to quench any uprisings from the former enemies of the world. However, the recent new religion founded by a single dissident, has had the Turks scratching their heads, and investigations have been inconclusive.

As a subsidary of the Shinra Electric Company, the Turk's official headquarters is located within the Shinra building in Midgar. However, the exact location of their command center within the building is known by only a few due to the confidential nature of the branch.
Within the command center the Turks have full access to all levels of security within the company, as well as access to a considerable survailance system linked to every Shinra facility across the globe.

Wall Market Pub

Located in the Wall Market slums of Midgar, a certain pub is considered the watering-hole for the Turks during their time off.
Elena worked at the pub during her school years while her elder sister, Gun (Female), was operating as a Turk.

Known Members

Veld: Former leader of the Turks, was in charge during the first AVALANCHE war, but defected due to his daughter.
Tseng: Second in Command of the Turks during the Genesis War and leader during the Nightmare, Tseng has remained a steadfast, honorable member of the Turks throughout his long career.
Reno: Already a notable Turk during the Genesis and Avalanche Wars, Reno has proven himself time and again as a dangerous operative and a laid back kind of guy. He works very well with his partner and best friend, Rude, who is the exact opposite of him.
Rude: A strong silent type, Rude is a powerful man who says little but lets his actions speak for him. A recruit during the Genesis War, Rude grew into one of the more notable and respected Turks during the AVALANCHE war.
Elena: A rookie during the Nightmare, Elena was always one of the most 'by the book' and devoted Turks, even after the fall of Shinra. She has remained with former President Rufus Shinra even after he became 'just' a private Citizen.
Legendary Turk: A former enemy of Shinra, noted for his actions during the Wutai War, the Legendary Turk, whose name has been replaced by his nickname (Death God of the Battlefield), was a two-edged weapon whenever the Turks called on him. However, after the Nightmare, no one knows of his whereabouts.
Jack Solomon: A new generation of the Turks, Solomon uses the code name 'Katana' based on his weapon, like others have in the past. He is devoted to the company and it's current altruistic goals.
Nadia Chambers:
Ivan Jackson: A former street tough, Jackson uses his contacts in the Midgar underground to keep the Turks informed on dissenters and potential threats. Codenamed 'Mace' due to his propensity for studded clubs, he is considered a somewhat controversial figure but is fiercely loyal to Solomon and the other New Turks.
Zhen Chang: From the land of Wutai, he was recruited into the Turks when they saw him display his amazing martial arts skills.
Jordan Frei: He acts as a defender for his allies, ensuring mission success while withstanding many a fight.
Zane: Also Known as Bato or Baton, Zane is an all rounder, decent in Melee, Ranged and even Magic, Though his specialty like his father lies in his Batons.
