Appearance

Personality

Tobias Swiftblade is full of boundless enthusiasm and heart, eager to learn and to jump from place to place. A genius of staggering levels, Tobi wants to see how things work, but knows that sometimes there's some fun in mysteries and imagination, and keeps a firm balance between science and fantasy.

Background

Born to loving parents, Tobias Swiftblade was nothing short of a prodigal son - bright-eyed like his father and subject to flights of fantasy like his mother, Tobi was constantly and consistently immersed in stories real and imagined. His ship, the Icarus, traveled all manner of worlds until his home dimension was destroyed - it was in this fashion that he was brought to his true love in a manner he could only describe as a fairy tale in and of itself.

Special Abilities

(These are skills, things that can be learned or trained, like martial arts techniques, Jutsu or magic spells. Abilities that are outside the norm of regular humans, but only because they have not had access to them.)

Nth Level Intellect: Gifted with natural intelligence and trained at a young age, Tobias is terrifyingly intelligent. He picks up most sorts of sciences very quickly, and can repair the vast majority of things.

Scouter Oculars: These are ocular enhancements - not replacements - that allow Tobias to scan and detect energy and magical signatures, as well as take pictures and zoom in.

Ferrofluid Body: Tobias's entire body is imbued with ferrofluid - his blood even has traces of the stuff in it, and a great deal of his powers come from it. With only a thought, he can call ferrofluid - liquid-like metal - from various points in his body to cover himself in armor, or to act as weaponry, forming it to whatever end he desires - shields, walls, giant fists, sword arms, anything. (Note: Due to the setting and his wish to keep as many questions from the party as possible, Tobi does not use this ability in DG.)

Active Regeneration: Tobias's nanomachines not only aid in the control of his ferrofluid abilities, but also help him regenerate from flesh wounds. He's not Cell or anything, but he can damage soak with the best of them, taking far, far more than his frame looks able to take. The pain is certainly still there, however.

Powers & Merits

(Unique, or hereditary, in-born powers, whether due to genetics or magic, things that can't be taught to others or simply gifted to this person from an outside force. Powers based on weapons should go in the Items. Merits can also go here.)

Telekinesis: Tobias has limited use of telekinesis, which he can use to hover or fly, as well as, if he concentrates, pulling smaller objects towards him, such as hand-held weaponry, or flipping switches or the like, as well as subconsciously guiding any thrown weapon from his hands to its mark, without fail. His accuracy is rather obscene due to this. He also uses this to type and manipulate finer things like switches, triggers, and leversfrom a distance without actively using his hands.

Resources (2): Money, dear boys. This is very simply how much (or how little) currency you have available to you at any time. Without this merit, your character is essentially broke, with just enough money to scrape by in a dire situation or on their own. With two points, you can outfit yourself with the best available gear and have little need to watch frivolous purchases (within reason) at local merchants.

Spy Network (4): You control a group of spies who are loyal to you, for reasons you'll have to determine. These people are organized enough to keep you updated on what enemies or other groups are up to. This can be a local group or a far-reaching network with members in other countries. Their information is relatively up-to-date and reliable, as they aren't likely to lie to you. However, they aren't working for free, and aren't likely to keep up the good work or remain loyal unless they're treated well. Logistics are between the PC and GM, but by and large this group is useful and quite helpful. At 4 points, the Spy Network follows you loyally and handles their own finances, but will expect praise and the occasional reward, as well as two-way loyalty.

True Love (1): You've found that One who makes your life complete. Automatic Willpower success when striving to protect, come closer, or remain close to your True Love. Other benefits as well, GM's discretion.

Soul Stone Ability (Thief)

  • Lockpick: able to open any locked chests or locked doors.
  • Hide: Allows the thief to hide underground. They cannot move.

Unique Items

(Madougu, magical weapons or other unique or special weapons, as well as all techniques related to them, as without it technically the character is NOT able to use these abilities.)

The Legacy Engine: A replacement for his heart, just like his father's. It gives Tobias an unusually high amount of energy. Despite this, he is not a synth - it acts as a biological replacement, simply making him highly resistant to physical and mental fatigue.

The Daedalus 20XD6: A hovercar found on Gaia-2. Pending desc as Tobi works on it.

Items Of Note

A parasol/umbrella blade he sometimes uses in battle, a balisong switchblade.

A LOT of knives.

Various small tools.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Blinding Optimism: Tobias can and will always assume the best of people. No matter how many times he's backstabbed or manipulated, he'll at most be hesitant before giving the enemy the benefit of the doubt. This doesn't mean that he'll hesitate in killing or beating an opponent, but if they surrender, he'll take them at their word.

EMP: Tobias is exceptionally vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses and waves, and while EMPs may be scarce or nonexistent on this world, a natural magnetic storm or similar effect will cause his oculars and ferrofluids to go haywire, leaving him blind and partially paralyzed.

Legacy Engine: If stabbed in the chest, Tobias's Legacy Engine could rupture, causing him to explode with the fury of a thousand suns.

Complicated Science: Tobias's oculars are made of such sophisticated hardware that standard science in this world will be ill-suited to sufficiently repair it. It could be possible, but he could be out for quite a while.

Otherworldly Taint (2): You have a physical peculiarity (odd hair/eye color, glowing eyes, etc.) and/or just an odd aura about you which may make you stick out. Someone who suspects you're not "normal" may make an Alertness roll, difficulty 7, to determine what you are. (Tobi can cover up the metal parts of ferrofluid on his face and body, but scrutiny by the right person can reveal something is very amiss. His heterochromia might be seen as off, too.)

Isolated Upbringing (1): You were raised in a very unique society, or were somehow otherwise sequestered away from "normal" life, so you have trouble dealing with this Outside-World thing. Dealing with any community outside the one in which you were raised raises a -1 Penalty on Social rolls, when RP'ing accomodates it. This can lead to quite a bit of problems of the non comedic type in this kind of setting. (Tobi grew up on a spaceship.)

Phobia (3): Bugs. At 3 pts, the object of your fear will cripple you, and you might pass out if you fail a roll (Diff 7). If you succeed, you can do -nothing else- until you get as far away from it as possible, likely screaming and flailing. (The Swiftblade Family Phobia. Tobias can't stand big insects, and will actively freeze up or panic when an insect bigger than a dog is present.)

Offensive to Animals (1): For some reason, animals fear you or just don't like you. All rolls involving interacting with animals are at a -1 Penalty. Some creatures (Vampires, Werewolves, Robots) have this naturally, so taking it again makes the animals actively antagonistic towards you, and may bite you or pee on you.
