Appearance

Rather short stature and fairly busty but other than that her body is absolutely perfect for Kenjutsu. She's usually found in either three outfits; her school uniform, casual street wear (jeans, leather jacket, tanktop and choker), or her Kenjutsu training outfit ...with the hakama and gi.

Personality

Completely mission motivated. Setsuna does not believe in fairy tales and that a world where the good win. She believes only in strength and ability. If you're strong, you win. If you're weak, you lose. It doesn't matter if you're the good guy or the bad guy. She's very blunt, aloof, sometimes cold... however if gotten past that exterior, she can get pretty frustrated and make monkey noises.

Background

After meeting at the castle and growing closer and closer together, Kayomi Himura and Mifuyu Mikagami eventually got married and had a daughter. Setsuna, that daughter, grew up in a loving, caring family where peace and kindness was the bread and butter of everything. Setsuna heard many stories from her mother about how her grandfather was a legendary swordsman who fought for justice and protected the weak.. and never killed. She also heard stories from her father of how he had used his techniques to take down opponents in a peaceful way. Setsuna became infatuated with this idea of justice and heroes. Along with her uncanny knack with learning the sword, Setsuna would often sneak out and try to do like the stories.. in being a hero.

However, Setsuna in the end was just a girl. She was way too sheltered and too naive. When fighting a gang of very, very bad hooligan boys.. ..Setsuna was taken down. And being that she -was- a girl.. other things ensued. The men then brought a knife to her face, cutting her to make sure she remembered that little girls shouldn't go into dark alleys. When Setsuna awoke, she felt terrible all over.. and sick. And in another world of defeat. When the authorities had taken her home.. there were no words said. Her parents tried to reach out to her, but Setsuna raised a block around herself.. in her mind she became hardened against the concept of this.. fake.. 'Justice'. There were no heroes. If you were weak and stupid, you lose. She felt like her world was a lie and she wasn't going to fall for it again.

Setsuna's training became -far- more serious. She never wanted a repeat of what had happened to her. But first.. she was still too weak. ...and suddenly.. the words of the man that her grandfather fought made even more and more sense to her.

The weak are food for the strong.

That would be her new philosphy. With this traumatic incident and the philosophies of her parents sword styles.. Setsuna became more than apt in her abilities.. and therefore caught the eye of PARADIGM.

Special Abilities

(These are skills, things that can be learned or trained, like martial arts techniques, Jutsu or magic spells. Abilities that are outside the norm of regular humans, but only because they have not had access to them.)

  • Photographic Reflexes: Can replicate any physical prowess motion or skill she witnesses, even without prior training, unless above her body's abilities. However, this allows her to replicate moves and techniques that don't require ki or superhuman physical attributes.
  • Resistance to Cold and Ice attacks: Setsuna, due to training by the Hyoumon-ken style with the Ensui, is capable of resisting the negative effects of the cold and the other dangerous side effects of ice based attacks (fluids freezing, frostbite, etc.). However, an ice spike or physical weapon still works as normal, but cold-based strikes have a lesser effect on her.

Fighting Style: Hyomon Ken Ryu

  • Meaning: Hyomon-exterior/outer, Ken-sword
  • Philosophy: The Hyomon Ken Ryu philosophy is undefined. Tokiya learned the attacks of the style through anger and sorrow over the loss of his sister. From what I've observed, Meguri Kyoza encougared these feelings and instilled a vengeful outlook on life in the easily-influenced child instead of teaching him the proper philosophy of the style. Thus 'the flower has become more important than the nut', as put by Miyamoto Musashi on the overemphasis on the fighting style, neglecting the philosophy behind it. Mifuyu, Setsuna's father was charged with changing it, however due to Setsuna's traumatic past, she is able to harness these feelings once more.
  • Attacks: As compared to other madougu, the Ensui has very few attacks - only three, to be exact. This isn't as it seems. The property's of water also effect the workings of the ensui. Water takes the form of it's vessel and thus is a very versatile element. This enabled the Ensui to perform many diverse attacks, such as encasing the opponent in a semi-sphere of ice etc. The attacks vary according to the user thus the Ensui only has three 'standard' attacks
    • Tsurara Mai (Icicle Dance): This attack decentralizes the power of the Ensui from the core orb into icicles. It creates a chain effect similar to nuclear fission - the initial icicles are projected upwards and these freeze atmospheric water vapor, making it rain icicles back down and these icicles create more icicles in turn and so on.
    • Mizu Hebi (Water Snake): This attack could be refered to the incarnate attack of the Ensui. The snake is a common symbol of water because of it's means of movement. Thus, this attack in the form of a snake maximizes the effectiveness of the delivered strike. Water from the ensui and surrounding vapor is formed into four spheres that are struck with a downward blow from the ensui. This projects the gathered water forward in the form of a snake delivering a hard cutting strike to the opponent.
    • Water/Ice Wall: Having not learned her grandfather's Absolute Zero, Setsuna instead learned her father's version of a 'bubble' or 'wall' of ice and water to contain foes, or protect oneself instead. Setsuna learned how to either trap a foe in a wall of water, or ice, or protect herself with the same wall. This is meant to immobilise and defend, not kill.

Fighting Style: Kamiya Kasshin-ryū

Setsuna is a practitioner of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū. The primary weapon of a practitioner is a wooden bokken. A bokken is generally considered to be a more advanced weapon in kendo practices and can deal more severe damage, hence the bokken is likely reserved only for masters of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū style or for those who are considered advanced in their studies. This style is perfected for One on One combat.. in large groups, the style is more difficult to use.

As a teacher of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū, Setsuna mastered the successions technique. In the first one, Hadome, Setsuna crosses her arms over her head and catches the blade of the opponent with the back of their hands. This allows her to maintain their grip on her sword while catching the opponents blade at the same time. However, if properly used, it can be chained into Hawatari Kamiya Kasshin-ryū's offensive succession technique. It is a counter-attack and can only be performed after a successful use of the Hadome technique. From the Hadome position, Setsuna twists her wrists, thus stripping the weapon of their attacker away from their wrists.

Techniques of this style also are meant to be performed with the weapon broken. With Tsuka no Gedan: Hiza Hishigi|Handle Attack, Knee Crush Setsuna dive-lunges at her opponent's knees, bringing the hilt against their knee.

Makai Priest Training

Setsuna training with Hakoda in being a Makai Priestess as had her learn the following abilities.

  • Ability to craft and repair soul metal items.
  • Ability to write ofuda to weaken horrors and seal yin gates.
  • An understanding of the Makai world and how it bleeds into the real world so she can see things that normal humans can't; spirit squatting in places and such.
  • Ability to craft fetishes (artifacts) that aid in the detection/hunting/slaying of horrors. (Ex: disguising potions, healing potions, etc. She needs the materials for this but she knows how to do it).
  • Ability to cast spells with her brush. The spells that Setsuna can cast with her brush are listed below:
    • Energy Strike - With her brush, Setsuna is able to write the Kanji in the air and send the written Kanji outwards at an opponent like a blast. The blast can harm people but it is most effective against demon/horror types.
    • Dissolve - Setsuna can convert a solid object into water. She can do this in order to escape an area, go through solid doors, and so on. She cannot use this ability on things that seal or ward her spells. Also there are limitations of what she can change; she cannot turn a building into water -- rather she can turn a single wall (or portion of it approx. 10' radius max) or a pillar.

Merits

  • Eidetic Memory (2): Having a "photographic" memory, you can accurately recall any sight or sound with a successful Alertness roll. The higher you roll the more you remember. You also rarely forget -anything-.
  • Concentration (1): You are very good at focusing, and suffer no penalty for distractions, stress or having to repeat yourself often.
  • Graceful (2): You are extremely agile and delicate in your movements. +1 Bonus on all Dexterity rolls. Botches will still hurt, but it is possible to gracefully fall down, and you'll die before you look clumsy.
  • Double-Jointed (1): +1 Bonus on any roll involving flexibility, or escaping.
  • Catlike Balance (2): +1 Bonus to rolls relating to balance.
  • Lightning Calculator (1): You have a natural affinity for numbers. +1 bonus when relevant.
  • Time Sense (1): You have an inate sense of time, and can with a good deal of accuracy tell what time it is without a watch. In performing feats where timing may be essential (such as certain combat or athletic maneuvers), difficulties may be lowered or dropped.

Tamashi no Tsurugi - a katana crafted out of Soul Metal that Setsuna has modeled into being like a sakabatou. Soul metal is ridiculously heavy if someone who has not trained with it tries to use it (in the GAROU series, a crane had to be used to transport Kouga's sword). The blade can harm demon/horrors.

Makai Brush - a brush with the hairs of Spirit Beasts. Used to cast her spells.

Weaknesses

Need Water - Ensui cannot generate it's own water, it must have a ready source of water to keep the blade up.. Setsuna usually has a bottle of water to use to keep the blade functional. However, the more attacks she does.. the more the water is consumed.

Gang Hate - Due to Setsuna's past, Setsuna feels uneasy around large groups of males. She is proned to give dangerous looks or act irrationally.

Weapon reliant - Setsuna is a capable fighter but she needs to have a weapon of some sort. If she's disarmed of the Ensui she's.. just a normal girl. ^^;

Flaws

  • Black and White (1): You see all situations in black and white, good and evil, etc. In situations where this limited, judgmental way of thinking may hinder your reaction to something or cause you to act socially inappropriate, your Social rolls are at -1 Penalty.
  • Compulsive Speech (aka Big Mouth) (1): For whatever reason, you have difficulty sticking to the rule, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all." 1 point makes you talkative and a bit blunt.
  • Flashbacks "Her Incident" (3): When under pressure and/or in the presence of something which reminds you of something unpleasant in your past, you flashback to that past event. Whilst in a flashback, everything to you is as it was then.
  • Intolerance "Stupidity/Incompetence" (1): You have difficulty tolerating a specific thing or type of person, and are likely to snap at them and be dismissive.
