Appearance

She's forgone the flashy battle gear for more functional gear. Instead of the bustier, mesh-shirt, awkward skirt combo, she's simply gone for a cropped top that shows her belly (the mesh is still there, covering her belly), and form fitting black pants that contain lots of pockets where she keeps the majority of her ninja gear. The exception being her three-star fan, which she keeps holstered onto her back. Her wild black hair is still typically kept in its high-swept ponytail. When she's acting casual, she likes wearing any combination of black+bright colored clothing.

Personality

Shinako is a bit of a free spirit. She works toward whatever her goals might be, though she tends to work in her own way. Since she's always been accused of having a bossy streak, Shinako shies away from leadership positions since she doesn't feel that people would listen to her if they have the wrong attitude toward her. However, that doesn't stop her from voicing her opinion. She tries to have an optimistic outlook on the world, and often practices yoga and meditation to keep herself grounded in reality. Her practices also allow her to keep herself calmer than she has been in the past, but only for a while, as she can still be riled up fairly easily. Despite a lack of close friends, she tries to keep herself out in public whenever possible, fearing to be alone.

Background

There's not much to say about Shinako, really. She was a surprise the child born to Temari and Shikamaru, several years after their second child. Though she was born in the Sand Village, she often travelled around between the Sand and the Leaf. When she was young, she would often play with her little dolls as she watched her older brother, Shikame, train as a ninja. She thought it was OMGSOCOOL! and thought to herself she would want to be a ninja too! She often played ninja with her dollies, but only if no one was looking.

Because he was a good big brother, Shinako not only came to respect Shikame, but also, in the way that little siblings do, idolize him. For a good few years, she often followed Shikame, Mikoto, and Ka around the city, to cheer him on during their more mediocre missions and to see what it took to be a ninja. Finally, she came of age to enter the academy, and begged her mom and dad to allow her to. Temari had no problems with it, and Shikamaru just went with "Whatever your mom says". Shinako was overjoyed and began attending the academy and practicing more, and hunting and cheering on Shikame less.

She eventually graduated the academy and became a Genin! Even before she could be assigned to a team, she ran into Orochiko, at the moment she was revealing that she had assumed Sakura's identity (by pulling the face off~ mmmm, yum~) It almost made her second guess being a ninja, especially when coupled by her big brother's own worries for her. However, after a talk with a family friend, Mikoto, she decided to stay the course, and become stronger. To fight for the people around her, and to do her best to defeat any fears that may lie within- because if she didn't, then she wouldn't be able to fight as well.

Then, one day, after landing a, albiet playful, hit on her brother's teammate Ka... Shikame rewarded her with a gift: The Three-Star Fan.

She's been living on her own since she was sixteen. She's hung out with whoever's been around, but she hasn't really stuck to anyone to make them close. Her brother's continued relationship and eventual marriage to Masayu, and then his move back to Suna had been tough on her. Though the urge to return to Suna with her family was strong, she decided to remain in Konoha with Itoshi. She felt more at home in the Hidden Leaf Village. She held close ties to her family in Suna. And made sure she was always available, not necessarily as a ninja, but as a family member, whenever she was needed. It should be noted that though Shinako's been seen doing her meditation every now and then, it didn't become a daily habit until after Shikame left.

In her career, she's trained diligently, focusing on her weaknesses, building them up so they're not as bad as she focuses on her strengths. While she's retained the shadow jutsu she's learned in the past, with the Three-Star Fan that was given to her, she's been steadily learning wind-based jutsu.

A few years ago, she completed the Chuunin exam, and went on missions as required. Recently, for her shrewdness and quick thinking in missions, she was awarded the title of Jounin. Shortly after her seventeenth birthday, she became involved in information gathering missions, something her childhood activities helped prepare her. It wasn't something that she was required to do often, with more seasoned ninja around, but she still decided to train in it more diligently, finding it something that she enjoyed doing. This past summer, she was offered the position of a leader for a mission, but she declined, thinking that her colleagues wouldn't respect her enough to follow her orders.

In the last few years, Shinako's done extensive research on cult activity of her world, hoping to use the knowledge to preemptively detect and squash cult activity before it can have debilitating effects on the village they're targeting.

As far as her personal life is concerned, she's kept to herself mostly. Any advances made her way would often be turned aside, using almost any excuse she could find.

  • Bikou Ninjutsu - Shadowing Stealth Technique : Shinako prefers to use the cover of local landmarks to try and shadow her target.
  • Kakuremino no Jutsu - Cloak of Invisibility Technique : Kakuremino no Jutsu is the technique ninjas use to follow their targets covertly. The manner in which the ninja shadows their target can differ, from the basic hiding under a nearby object, to using a jutsu to turn oneself invisible. Shinako, again, attempts to use nearby landmarks if available.


NINJUTSU:

  • Bunshin no Shuriken no Jutsu - Shuriken Clone Jutsu : Creates up to 3 Shadow Clones of the Shuriken she throws. The clones will not hurt the enemy, but unless they can tell the difference between the real and the false shuriken, there's more ammo for them to dodge.
  • Fuusajin no Jutsu - Dust Wind Technique : Learned from her mother's notes, Shinako uses this Technique when in battle, or overcome with a wall of shrubbery. This is used in the crayon-drawing side-story of how she rescued the Sleeping Beauty.
  • Henge: Kasshouku Kitsune no Jutsu - Transformation: Brown Fox Technique : In environments that lack landmarks for Shinako to use for cover, she uses one of two Jutsus designed to allow her to keep her Henge for an extended period of time. The design of the Henge is so that Chakra energy isn't wasted in moments of stillness, instead circulating through the body to maintain the animal's prescence, but at a slower rate. Small animal forms are ideal for this. For the first of her forms, Shinako chose a mid-sized brown fox's body.
  • Henge: Shiro Usagi no Jutsu - Transformation: White Hare Technique : In environments that lack landmarks for Shinako to use for cover, she uses one of two Jutsus designed to allow her to keep her Henge for an extended period of time. The design of the Henge is so that Chakra energy isn't wasted in moments of stillness, instead circulating through the body to maintain the animal's prescence, but at a slower rate. Small animal forms are ideal for this. For the second of her forms, Shinako chose an average sized arctic hare's body.


ELEMENTAL JUTSU:

  • Fuuton: Reppuushou - Wind Release: Violent Wind Palm : With or without her fan, Shinako sends a gust of concentrated wind at her opponent. She usually utilizies this with a combination of an attack with a partner.

KEKKEI GENKAI - CLAN SPECIFIC JUTSU:

  • Kamaitachi no Jutsu - Cutting Whirlwind Technique : After the third star on her fan is revealed, meaning the fan is opened completely, Shinako swings the large fan, creating a monstrous gust of wind, which is then imbedded with chakra to direct it at her opponent and increase its speed. This does not require handseals.
    • Dai Kamaitachi - Great Cutting Whirlwind Technique : Developed by her mother, Temari, the technique uses the fan to blow a concussive wind that is imbued with her chakra. This technique is a bigger version of the normal Kamaitachi no Jutsu, having the ability to cause a great amount of cutting damage to the nearby area.
  • Fuuton: Tatsu no Ooshigoto - Wind Release: Great Task of the Dragon : This technique causes a tornado to descend on on a target, from the sky. This technique requires no hand seals and instead uses her fan. This technique can be set up as a fake as it does not immediately activate but has a delayed effect.
  • Fuuton: Sugoi Shippuu Kara Ue! - Great Gale from Above!: This technique was developed by Shinako. It requires a GREAT amount of chakra to utilize, but it is VERY effective in what it sets out to do- obliterate. Her fan needs to be utilized, fully open, and she will start to wave it from side to side, in a fanning motion, creating large wind gusts, but nothing TOO dangerous.. but enough to allow Shinako to hop onto her fan and ride an updraft into the air. When at the apex, Shinako will twist and grab her fan again, and release the rest of the chakra into cutting wind attacks at the ground below, devastating all in its path... but the updraft of air creating a cushioning blow for all who are falling down.
  • Kage Mane no Jutsu - Shadow Imitation Technique : A Jutsu learned by Shinako by her father and brother when she was younger, it's still in practice by her. By handsealing, she extends her shadow, using whatever available means neccesary, and connecting it with another person's shadow. When the shadows are connected, Shinako can then control the other person's movements by creating those movements herself. In one on one combat, she prefers to use this move to bind her opponent, and because of her unique weapon, pull out her fan to send a violent gust of wind toward her opponent. Because of the levels of chakra needed to hold the Kage Mane, it will usually break after the wind attack.
  • Kage Kubi Shibari no Jutsu - Shadow Neck Bind Technique : Learned from her father, the Kage Kubi Shibari no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique that requires Shinako to first bind their target using the Kage Mane no Jutsu technique. Once the target can no longer move, she forms the needed hand seal to initiate this technique. Her shadow will form a hand which will creep up their opponents body to their neck. Once the hand reaches the neck, it will constrict in such a manner so as to strangle the opponent. However, she will need to be careful. If her target has a lot of chakra, they can turn back the shadow hand and prevent it from binding their neck.
  • Kage Mane Shuriken no Jutsu - Shadow Imitation Shuriken Technique : Shinako can use her shadow chakra to imbue weapons. These weapons absorb the shadow chakra, and in turn, by implanting the shadow chakra enhanced blade into the shadow of her target, the target will be frozen in place; just as if they were caught in Shinako's extended shadow bindings. This is a technique Shinako uses to keep her opponents from fleeing.
  • Kage Nui - Shadow Sewing : Learned from her father. To perform the technique Shinako will first form the needed handseal to extend her shadow. She will then change the handseal to cause the shadow to emerge from the ground in tendrils. The tendrils can extend and whip about and are strong enough to pierce nearby targets.
  • Kage Yose no Jutsu - Shadow Gathering Technique : Learned from her father. This technique uses the Kage Nui threads to extend from a Kage Kubi Shibari bound on the body. These threads can then pull an object back towards the one bound. For example, the Kage Nui can extend to take wires and explosive tags from nearby, then sew the wire into the target, binding them with the wire and lacing them with explosive tags.
  • Kage Moufu - Shadow Blanket : Developed by her. This technique allows Shinako to literally pull shadows up and around herself, without dangerously constricting anything, so that she may be concealed within the shadows. Best when lighting is low.
  • Kage Kisai - Shadow Entry : Developed by her. This technique allows Shinako to use shadowed caches as gateways from one area to another. She has to imbue the entrances of the desired objects with benign chakra to allow the technique to be possible (otherwise, it would be chaos). By utilizing this technique, she can keep her weapon supplies at home, but be able to access them in battle by reaching into one of her many pants pockets. It is also protective, since getting attacked by fire with an explosive note in your pocket is never a good thing. Although the chakra used to mark the desired entrances is benign, it is still a slight draw on Shinako's overall chakra, so she doesn't dare attempt anything beyond two similar points.

Merits:

  • Common Sense (1): You are full of practical wisdom. A great merit for starting characters, as you may receive advice from the GM regarding how to handle certain situations.
  • Ability Aptitude- Stealth (1): Pick a single skill, talent, or knowledge: you're a whiz at whatver this is. +1 Bonus to all rolls using this ability.
  • Innocent (2): You have an aura of childlike innocence (whether you really are or not). +1 Bonus involving Subterfuge or Manipulation.
  • Catlike Balance (2): +1 Bonus to rolls relating to balance.
  • Double-Jointed (1): +1 Bonus on any roll involving flexibility, or escaping.

Family 3-Star Fan: A fan that was passed down from her mother, to her brother, and now to her. Next to her mother's diary, Shinako holds this fan near and dear to her heart. By utilizing the fan, she is able to execute the following techniques (described in detail above):

  • Dai Kamaitachi - Great Cutting Whirlwind Technique
  • Fuuton: Tatsu no Ooshigoto - Wind Release: Great Task of the Dragon


Coin of Demeter: A coin each of her teammates earned upon completion of Mission 88 (Are You Not Entertained?). By itself, it does not do much, but should any of the members find themselves back on that planet, the coin will act as a communication device to speak with Demeter directly.

Raccoon Costume: A box with a leaf symbol on it (hee,) when Shinako utilizes it, she will turn into a raccoon for a brief period of time- namely until she gets injured. While a raccoon, she has the ability to flap her tail and fly, defying gravity even more than she otherwise would.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!

  • Can be kind of bossy, which may turn off other people from following her lead.
  • Is afraid of being abandoned. Her mediation is to help her stave off the fear, but it's not foolproof.
  • Shinako has Gall while being perceived as an Airhead. Due to this, she has no Social Bonuses or Negatives, but can still be perceived as an airhead until she speaks up.

Flaws:

  • Compulsive Speech (aka Big Mouth) (1): For whatever reason, you have difficulty sticking to the rule, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all." 1 point makes you talkative and a bit blunt
  • Soft-hearted (1): You can't stand to witness suffering, and if you do, all your rolls are at -2 penalty for the next hour.
  • Overconfident (1): You think you can do everything even though you probably can't, and you try to prove your belief as often as possible.
  • Deep Sleeper (1): Waking up is hard; getting you moving is hard enough (-2 on all rolls to wake up), getting you comprehending what's going on after you're up isn't much easier (Your rolls in the next few minutes.. up to 30 minutes.. are at -1.)
