Appearance

Eriko has a somewhat dark skin tone for a Japanese woman, almost as if naturally tanned. She has the body of a track star (slim, no real bust to speak of, lean muscle) and keeps her body trim but delicate with daily exercise. Her dark blonde hair is kept cut short, almost tomboyish with a light curls at the ends. Her eyes are narrow and seem to be fixed in a look of contempt, even when she smiles genuinely. Eriko tends to dress very well, usually a white longcoat over a tight dark blue shirt, black pants and black boots - though when freerunning, she loses the jacket due to drag.

Escvandeon is almost completely white, with two electric blue lines running from the back of its heels, crossing over to the front of its thighs, across its torso up to its chest, almost meeting as it lines across the collar bone before splitting again to meet with the middle of each eye. The face of this being is completely blank, save for it's eyes and the helmet, mentioned later. Its eyes are brightly lit to the point of appearing a light bluish color, though the glow dims with its mood. Its body type is lanky to the point of seeming inhuman, with slightly longer than human arms, legs, and neck as well as a waist that barely measures 20" in diameter. The only thing resembling armor on this strange being are what appear to be half-boot/shinguards/kneeguards covering the front of each lower leg; half-gauntlets similar to the guards on the lower legs that split into 3/4 circle as they come to the knuckle; A thick plate across the chest resembling the armor of a Neon Genesis Evangelion plugsuit with a bright blue jewel in the center that pulses whenever Escvandeon's energy begins running low connected to a pair of pauldrons that sweep back, forming two short wing-stubs resembling the shoulders of the pokemon Palkia; and finally the helm covering the top and back of the head, swept back in a short spicule with vent-like grooves running alongside the main point - two other points convening on the sides and sweeping back and down before sharply sloping upward at the base of the neck.

Personality

Eriko, to most people, is a very calm, collected and intelligent young woman who seems too... refined for any wrongdoing. However, that is what Eriko wants those that haven't earned her trust to believe. Eriko is actually a very driven woman with a near mastery of a particular set of skills she is more than happy to use against anything that angers her - fortunately, that list is short and includes anyone who abuses the weak and innocent. She delights in cat-and-mouse games that back those she despises into a corner with all their dirty secrets exposed to those that once defended them. Thanks to Escvandeon's personality, however, she has not become the person who pulls the trigger and outright destroys her enemies... that power is reserved for more dangerous foes than regular asshole humans.

The energy being residing within Eriko, Escvandeon, never outright speaks on its own despite having the capability to do so, shows a more pronounced, enthusiastic and trusting personality that manifests while they are gestalted, making their gestalt form a much more friendly personality - one that is more easily digestible as 'heroic' to the general populace. The incredible shift in personality also helps with any secret identity problems that may arise, though Eriko cares little about that.

Background

War of the Starlords

Millions of years before the events of today, there existed a vast civilization of energy beings who coexisted with the mortal races of the universe. The mortal races named these benevolent beings the 'Starlords', and despite their protests worshiped them as gods.

One of their kind was not so benevolent. Ahriman was a tyrannical being who discovered that by causing mortal suffering, he could empower himself into true godhood and rule the universe as he felt was appropriate for a being known as a 'Starlord'... but it would require more than just a solar system. Thus, the black star began converting other Starlords to his dark cause, promising them the same power... but instead using the psychic emanations of suffering on his brethren, transforming them into grotesque mockeries of flesh known as Horrovas.

The other Starlords tried to fight against Ahriman and his armies, but thanks to their generally peaceful existence, knew little in the ways of war and were quickly defeated. However, as each Starlord fell, a new being rose in it's place - the first Dunamists. Part mortal and part Starlord, these beings combined the mortals knowledge of war with the Starlord's great powers, allowing them to drive back Ahriman and his Horrovas armies to the abyss at the center of the universe... but the war's toll had given Ahriman all the negative energy he needed to complete his plan, transforming himself into a living black hole. Only through the sacrifice of countless Dunamists and the remaining Starlords could Ahriman be stopped in his terrifying new form, sealed outside the universe.

Only two Starlords remained after this incident - Escvandeon and Rusyvedeon. Wary of returning to their mortal charges, these two beings decided to guard the tear in the universe that Ahriman was shoved through, in case he should grow strong enough to break free.

Prologue

25 years ago, David Wyman and Euard Zurloff were the most powerful men in the business world. Though their corporation - NovaGuard - was originally a defense contractor, they found the best way to make a safe future for their families was through researching sustainable energy. While their fortunes faltered thanks to the radical change in business model, their research yielded theories which would catapult the world's technology level centuries ahead... but their research yielded a dark secret that they hoped to keep buried.

Unfortunately, David Wyman's first daughter, Tomoyo, would be the one to discover this secret. Born with a strange psychic sensitivity, she could hear voices in the reactor which at first terrified her... then after one strange incident involving a massive surge of energy in the reactor, she grew obsessed with the strange voices. As Tomoyo continued to listen, her demeanor changed to something dark and wicked - one incident in particular, some 7 years later when Eriko was only 6 years old, would prove how depraved Tomoyo had become thanks to the voices she claimed to hear.

Their mother, Hayami, had noticed that the girls were strangely quiet. As she entered the room, she found Tomoyo choking the life out of Eriko, muttering something strange to the near unconscious 6 year old:

"The Dunamists will not rise once more..."

Mrs Wyman's appearance, however, caused Tomoyo to stop long enough for Eriko to kick her sister in the face and escape. The next day, 12 year old Tomoyo was sent for heavy psychological counselling as Hayami explained to David what had happened... David paled, realizing what had occurred... but rather than tell Hayami the truth about what Euard and David had found all those years ago, what gives powers to billions across the globe, he chose to send Tomoyo and Eriko to boarding school, far from the source of the voices.

Despite what Eriko's parents believed, she too was deeply affected by the event, and even more so by the sudden 'abandonment' to an alien world far from Yokohama. David, however, had advised Euard to send his own daughter along with Eriko to the same school so that she could have at least one familiar face. This... would prove to be a bad idea, as Asuka, already angry at her parents for sending her away, only fed Eriko's unstable mental status, leading them both into boarding school infamy... but not as bullies as Asuka had originally wanted. Eriko, though the smaller one, was clearly more intelligent and lead the duo to counterbullying in ways many would think were cruel, in the world of European Boarding Schools were how many were forced to survive. One such incident would earn them immortal infamy however, the great graduation crash of 2009 where Eriko, using the hacking skills she had built up over the course of the last decade, obliterated the files of those she had seen tormenting other students as well as bankrupted their student accounts, ruining their chances of graduation and possibly their futures.

Asuka and Eriko were expelled from the boarding school, though neither of them fretted about it - the money they had liberated from their peers helped buy them a comfortable year long sojourn throughout Europe. However, their vacation would be cut short by the news that their parents had disappeared under mysterious circumstances, forcing them to return to Japan. Eriko was hesitant to return, still clearly remembering Tomoyo's attack a decade ago... and wary of how she would react to her return.

The events of that day would be something neither Asuka nor Eriko would ever forget, as their lives would be irrevocably changed forever.

Season 1 - The Horrovas Awaken

Tomoyo, Asuka and Eriko sat equally apart from one another as one of the NovaGuard advisers read out their options. Tomoyo's slightly unhinged expression should have alerted Asuka and Eriko that something terrible was about to happen... but as the reactor in the bowels of the NovaGuard HQ began to warp from the strange energies being unleashed, all but Tomoyo were caught off guard as the building began to cave in on itself...

Eriko awoke to find herself hovering above Earth, watching as strange black energy erupted from the reactors her father had helped invent. A voice, calming but alien, spoke of what was occurring - beings trapped at the center of the universe had found a way out of their prison thanks to the reactors NovaGuard had created... and Tomoyo's 'improvements' to the system she had put into place 5 years ago - when their parents actually had disappeared. Enraged, Eriko demanded the voice help her seek vengeance against her sister - but it would only do so if she helped defeat the monsters that were now pouring into our universe, the Horrovas.

As soon as she agreed to the voice's terms, she awoke back on Earth, standing in the rubble of the NovaGuard headquarters building, disoriented and bloody but strangely unscathed. As emergency crews arrived, she realized she had not seen Asuka and tried to claw her way into the rubble to search for her. Local police, however, would not allow her to enter the remains of the building as they dragged her off to a local hospital for a checkup.

Though the authorities were baffled at her condition, a week later they allowed Eriko to leave the hospital. She soon set off across the globe on the whim of the voice in her head to fight the mysterious enemy and perhaps find out what happened to her friend Asuka. Her journey had her facing off with the protoplasmic monsters the Horrovas had evolved into thanks to the negative psychic resonance of the nearby populations across the globe... and eventually she found herself back in Japan, only to face off with a dark mirror image of her Escvandeon form.

This being, calling itself Rusyvedeon, would eventually be revealed to be Asuka who had been forced to combine with the other Starlord that had held back the Horrovas for millions of years through Tomoyo's experiments. Though they battled many times, Eriko eventually freed Asuka from Tomoyo's control. Though Asuka was traumatized by what Tomoyo had done to her, Eriko convinced her to join the fight against the Horrovas and Tomoyo.

Upon seeing what Tomoyo was capable of, however, Eriko should have known what to expect next.

Season 2 - Ahriman's Return

Though Asuka was still hesitant to fight the Horrovas, Eriko's continued perseverance in the fight against the Horrovas eventually broke Asuka of her fears. The duo soon were able to track Tomoyo to the Zurloff-owned NovaGuard headquarters in Germany, but upon arriving had found Tomoyo was ready for them with a new and much more dangerous foe - humans forcibly merged with Horrovas, Fausts. Though neither Asuka nor Eriko knew this fact, once it was revealed during a face to face encounter with Tomoyo, it caused Eriko to have a 'heroic BSOD', leaving Asuka to fight alone for a short stead.

During Eriko's semi-retirement, she met a charming but hotblooded young man who convinced her to return to the fight as, in the end, she was the only one who could do what needed to be done. This young man turned out to be the leader of a country-wide biker gang that, during the seemingly final battle with Tomoyo and her army of Fausts would back up the two Dunamists in their fight. Unfortunately though, Eriko's retirement had given Tomoyo the time she needed to complete her plan and bring Ahriman itself to Earth through her own body in a perfected form of the forced-merging that had made Asuka a Dunamist and the Fausts, attaining what she believed at first to be godhood... until the malevolent entity asserted it's will, seemingly obliterating her consciousness.

Ahriman delighted in the fact his powers had grown from becoming a Dunamist, and using his intensified power, began to torment the citizens of Earth on a global scale, causing a new wave of Horrovas to appear worldwide. As Ahriman concentrated on this, Escvandeon and Rusyvedeon were able to attack, driving many of the Horrovas back into the abyss while Ahriman was forced into space where the true final battle began. With the good Dunamists in their 'own element', they were able to use the full breadth of their powers to drive Ahriman back towards the void, trading blows with the literal god and just barely avoiding utter annihilation themselves. Soon they had crossed the threshold from their universe to the void where the last of the Horrovas still existed, giving Ahriman the advantage of numbers.

With the Dunamists nearly defeated, the Starlords proposed separating with their hosts and using what remained of their power to reseal the abyss, trapping themselves inside with Ahriman and the Horrovas. The girls protested, as this would only mean that Ahriman could still return to Earth - it had to be destroyed if the universe was to know peace from this terror. The conviction of the girls echoed through the Horrovas, many of whom had been defeated before at their hands... and unbelievably, many of them began to revert back to their Starlord forms, giving what was left of their own power to defeat Ahriman once and for all.

As Ahriman disintegrated back into Tomoyo, the Dunamists discovered that she had banished their parents to this abyss as well. Though Eriko wanted to leave Tomoyo within the void with what remained of the Horrovas, Asuka and her parents convinced her to let the law decide what to do with her, thus bringing her back to Earth to deal with the authorities there.

Epilogue - Last of the Horrovas

Though David and Euard apologized to their daughters for their actions causing the events and pleaded with them to stay, Asuka and Eriko knew that Horrovas still existed and would continue to do so until the abyss 'ran dry' - the only way for that to happen was to destroy the Horrovas as they appeared. Thus, the Dunamists would again set out across the globe to fight off the last of the Horrovas... and perhaps find new adventures.

Meanwhile, Tomoyo, now in a maximum security prison, still heard the voice of Ahriman deep within her mind, reminding her that their power would be eternal...

Special Abilities

(These are skills, things that can be learned or trained, like martial arts techniques, Jutsu or magic spells. Abilities that are outside the norm of regular humans, but only because they have not had access to them.)

Eriko has none of these, as her abilities are either something one can achieve through practice or only if one is a Dunamist.

Powers & Merits

(Unique, or hereditary, in-born powers, whether due to genetics or magic, things that can't be taught to others or simply gifted to this person from an outside force. Powers based on weapons should go in the Items. Merits can also go here.)

Merits

Eriko's Merits
All merits listed below are those Eriko possesses while not transformed.

Common Sense (1): You are full of practical wisdom. A great merit for starting characters, as you may receive advice from the GM regarding how to handle certain situations.
Concentration (1): You are very good at focusing, and suffer no penalty for distractions, stress or having to repeat yourself often.
Ability Aptitude (1): Eriko is a computing genius, especially when it comes to more larcenous acts (ie: Hacking). +1 Bonus to all rolls using this ability.
Burning Aura (2): Your aura is unusually brilliant; even people who can't read auras will be inexplicably drawn to you. Some may see you as a threat or a snack.

Escvandeon's Merits
On top of the ones listed before, Escvandeon possesses the following Merits:

Catlike Balance (2): Difficulties for balance-related Athletics rolls are at -1.
Graceful (2): You are extremely agile and delicate in your movements. +1 Bonus on all Athletics rolls.
Conditional Powers (1): While fighting in direct sunlight or out in space, Escvandeon's powers are one 'degree' stronger than normal.

Powers

Alternate Form - Escvandeon
After merging with the Starlord Escvandeon all those years ago, Eriko has been possessed with the ability to instantly transform into a strange super-powered form with a bright flash of light - which, to say the least, does little when it comes to stealth but might be a boon when it comes to Intimidation. While transformed, Eriko has the following Merits and Powers:
Escvandeon Form - Strength
Escvandeon rates rather low when it comes to physical strength, capable of lifting about 2-3 tons (a small truck). However, coupled with its speed, can strike with upwards of 10 tons of force (enough to do some severe damage to steel or reinforced concrete).
Escvandeon Form - Speed
Escvandeon is blazingly fast, capable of afterimaging or outpacing the fastest racing vehicles on the planet (upwards of 500 mph).
Escvandeon Form - Agility
Coupled with Escvandeon's incredible speed is it's overall reflex control, putting it on a level that allows it to catch most pistol-speed bullets at close range or super fine control when moving all out.
Escvandeon Form - Armor
Escvandeon's skin is thick enough to withstand most mundane forms of weapon - military grade weapons, as well as super strong opponents however will still cause damage... just not as much damage as it would to a normal person.
Escvandeon Form - Life Support
Escvandeon can exist just fine in the vacuum of space, ignoring the rigors of cold and heat discovered there and having no need to breathe.
Escvandeon Form - Regeneration
Escvandeon 'eats' cosmic rays to sustain itself, thus when exposed to such heals at a rate faster than an average human's wounds should, but not fast enough to put it back in the fight in a few rounds. Healing from a heavy knock down drag out fight where bones are broken would take a day or two of recovery. If Escvandeon were to fly out of atmosphere to take in unfiltered cosmic energy, it could regenerate from such wounds within hours.
Escvandeon Form - Flight
Escvandeon's true speed comes from it's flight - in atmosphere Escvandeon can reach upwards of Mach 1, but in space can easily fly upwards of light speed if it has enough of a 'charge' to last the journey. It has only had to do this once, and nearly perished in the act thanks to the amount of energy required.
Escvandeon Special Techniques
Each of these abilities drains Escvandeon of it's energy, thus cannot be fired off in rapid succession without risking detransformation (much like a mage with it's mana). The abilities listed below are actually a form of light/UV ray manipulation that could be used for more tricky applications (illusions, 'hard light' constructs at the most difficult level), but Eriko has never felt these necessary and would rather Escvandeon use what it knows than trying to find something new. Time will tell if they need to change up their tactics, however.
[Radiant Shield] - Creates a solid barrier of photons with a radius of 10' capable of withstanding blows that should atomize a regular person.
[Radiant Spear] - Creates a spear of solid photons which acts like an energy blade.
[Nova Punch/Kick] - Charges up a punch or kick attack with light energy for extra damage.
[Nova Ray] - Fires a weak laser blast at a single target.
[Nova Ray Storm] - Fires a barrage of weak laser blasts at a single target or a 10' radius barrier.
[Nova Beam] - A larger, more powerful blast that requires a few moments of concentration to charge and can atomize a car-sized target, always reserved for more dangerous foes.

Unique Items

(Madougu, magical weapons or other unique or special weapons, as well as all techniques related to them, as without it technically the character is NOT able to use these abilities.)

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!

Flaws

Vengeance (2): Eriko loses her composure when dealing with those that have been unwillingly molded into monsters, like her sister had done to Asuka and other innocents to create her army of Fausts. When facing a chance to do this, you need to make a roll (diff 7) to resist taking your revenge.
Soft-hearted (1): You can't stand to witness suffering, and if you do, all your rolls are at -2 penalty for the next hour.
Otherworldly Taint (2): Even while in her regular human guise, Eriko's dark blonde hair and the slight glow to her blue eyes are... odd, to say the least. Someone who suspects you're not "normal" may make an Alertness roll, difficulty 7, to determine what you are.
Eriko's Weaknesses
  • Eriko is merely human, and while she can transform quickly into Escvandeon, that does not save her from surprise attacks and her Dunamist form has no super fast instant save regenerative powers, so if she takes a hit in this form it still carries over to her Dunamist form.
Escvandeon's Weaknesses
  • Escvandeon's powers all run off a 'charge' of cosmic energy/radiation/sunlight. Deprive it of either (ie: lead or darkness-based powers) and it's charge will run down quickly, forcing it to revert to Eriko.
