Appearance

Damon's fiery orangeish brown hair is easily the first thing one notices about him, followed by the usual presence of goggles around his neck or head - usually for his speed. He wears leathers very often, and his rail boots are nearly omnipresent, just in case. His face has a definite Asian cast to it, cheekbones raised slightly, with a smile that never seems even, always up a bit one way more than the other. Due to the need for his cables being hidden, he often wears a jacket on duty, but rarely has any sleeves at all when he's being casual.

Personality

Damon Decantes tends to be larger than life - there's a world, and he's going to live all over it. Dubbing himself an 'optimistic realist', Damon moves on place to place, with his own peculiar sense of justice and utterly intent on having fun along the way. When presented with Schrodinger's Cat, Damon would tell you that the cat is neither alive nor dead but 'half alive', which is...not all that bad.

Background

Damon Decantes is the sort of person that not only straddles the line, he's constantly running across it. Born in the inner city of a place he doesn't like to talk about but is likely Japan, Damon was a boy with a fiery sense of justice and yet a loose sense of how to get that resolved. Using his genetically gifted speed and martial arts ability, he attempted to shift his weight around from the inside, often assembling street gangs and directing them to do his bidding against corporations and rival gangs alike, until finally the police caught up with him. Impressed by his abilities and with the faith of a few officers that realized his heart was in the right place, Damon was brought in as a probationary officer, able to utilize various tools in his work, while often going undercover to defeat gang activity there.

After a year of very successful work, he's been scouted by PARADIGM.

Special Abilities

Damon is trained in a few different forms of fighting - he's capable enough in close range, and his abnormal speed makes him deadly, able to attempt multiple hits if his opponent is unwary. He punches and kicks MUCH slower than he actually runs, however - he can close the distance well enough, but after that first punch, the next few punches will be very fast, but not lightning-fast unless he puts his entire body into it...which doesn't bode well for his accuracy or counterassaults.

Damon also has firearms training, but he absolutely cannot use his speed and his guns at the same time, again, for accuracy's sake. He has to stop and shoot.

Powers & Merits

Super Speed: Damon possesses actual genetic super-speed, able to move incredibly quickly on (and up) land, and on water - he's able to speed faster than bullets and even lasers to a point, and he has the reflexes to back it up.

[Boost] - Damon actively doubles his speed to charge through enemies and clear distances at an unparalleled rate for a limited time. A common trick he uses to demonstrate this power is picking up a clump of mud or dirt and hurling it diagonally upwards - and then using his gratuitous speed to run up the dirt while in mid-air as a lift-off point. This takes a lot of energy, and he takes care not to overuse it. If he does, he's liable to pass out. If he does three times in a row, he DOES pass out immediately after, no questions asked.

Catlike Balance (2): Difficulties for balance-related Athletics rolls are at -1.

Crack Driver (1): This has been changed to "Expert Driver" in later books, but we all know what this Merit really means: you drive a car like you're on crack (but can do it without killing anyone). You get a +2 Bonus to Driving rolls. You can take similar merits for piloting or driving other vehicles if appropriate for the character. (Damon, despite his speed, REALLY enjoys driving - he races even when he can't run.)

Animal Magnetism (1): You have the "WOA DUDE BANG ME" aura, and receive a +1 Bonus on seduction and similar rolls (though this may inspire jealousy in the people who view you as competition). This is a Merit seldom taken seriously in the Chat Rooms, as it's been too often used by players whose intent is seldom gaming...

Danger Sense (3): "Oh no! My Spider Senses are tingling!" A successful Alertness roll, difficulty depending on the situation, will give you a timely sense of foreboding before something bad happens... (Necessary, what with moving at superspeed often.)

Graceful (2): You are extremely agile and delicate in your movements. +1 Bonus on all Athletics rolls. (See above.)

Unique Items

Snap-Grappling Hooks: Damon keeps these mechanisms hidden under his sleeves when he's on the job. Using these, he can essentially fire a zip-cord with a claw (or hook) that attaches to any object or loop around a person and snare. From here he can either pull the person or object close to him by retracting the cable, or pull himself towards it if it's more stable. He often uses this to climb, redirect or propel himself, using his speed. Sometimes he even uses this in combat.

Microfiber Rail Boots: Damon wears these to specifically aid in his running up (or down) walls, so that if he has to slow down slightly, he won't fall off due to loss of momentum immediately. He can also use these to grind on rails or any sort of ridge, continuing his momentum gain and getting...style points, really. The boots also let him jump much farther while running and increases the distance he can fall without taking damage.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Damon's superspeed is not an insta-win - the faster he's going when he attempts anything that requires precision, the harder it is for him to actually do anything...actually precise. Guns are an outright no - he can't really zoom up and put a gun to someone's head, since he'll likely either shoot immediately by mistake or put it to a guy's shoulder...or air. His initial attack in a superspeed lunge is pretty precise, but trying to follow up with a bunch of attacks in one go usually is for distraction's sake, unless he's VERY VERY lucky. When he slows it down a bit, he's much more apt to hit on the offense. (...honestly this is a paragraph for 'he's not gonna DBZ superspeed cheese'.)

Notoriety (3): You did something, or at least others think you did, that is frowned upon by your peers and elders. -2 Penalty on Social rolls with your personal group. (Damon has often taken his OWN brand of justice, which has gotten him in trouble with the law once or...lots. He's led street thugs before.)

Slow Healing (3): For some reason, your healing processes are slow, and you heal twice as slowly as others. Supernatural healing only repairs half the damage it normally would (round down). (For some reason, Damon suffers from an ailment that makes his body heal slower than others.)
