History

The history of the organization, mostly notable facts or important events.

Purpose

The Council of Sages is the loose assembly of the most powerful sorcerers and magic users on the Continent. They periodically reconvene as a group to discuss the furthering of magic in Largias. Their primary goal is to share new discoveries, by themselves or their students, with others in the Council, thereby allowing different perspectives on each new magical discovery, whether a spell or a new plane. While some are reticent to share certain things, the Council as a whole is at least open to discussing new techniques and discoveries of magic. As a rule, they gather once a year, even if no significant issues about magic have been on the agenda. When problems or new discoveries arise, a member can contact the others to call for a meeting.
The Council's view on magic is highly scientific. They use different points of view to come to the most logical and 'scientific' way of approaching magic, like hermetic sorcerers. Due to this, the Council does not generally keep Druids or Shamans out of the Council. Those who join tend to not find common ground with the others, which is why Druids and Shamans tend to have either their own societies, or operate a lone, respectively. The Council has no problem with them, but they find their spiritual and quasi-religious view of magic unproductive. Magical circles, formulae and shared, simplified spells and the replacement of specific somatic or physical elements with general ones, all come from the Council.
