Appearance

She might be pretty if she ever thought to smile. Her short, dark red hair is styled into a sleek bob, framing a face with delicate features. Her eyes are a deep brown. Her dress is a mixture of practical and highly impractical punk style, favoring a red corset, black leather coat, studded belt, ripped jean shorts, thigh-high boots, and fishnets.

Personality

Rude and generally lazy, this girl seems like a good-for-nothing punk. Her brash, devil-may-care attitude doesn't win her many friends, though she fiercely protects those she truly cares for. Her brusque demeanor makes her appear shallow and flippant, but of course, everyone is more than they appear.

Background

A bit of a military brat, Esme was born in Kyoto but her family constantly moved, making it hard for her to form lasting friendships. At the age of thirteen, her father began training her to be a Harmonixer after seeing the potential within her. Shortly after, during a trip to Europe, Esme was separated from her parents during a bizarre accident. Fearing the possibility of being put in an orphanage, Esme gathered up what money she could and took to the streets, dropping out of school.

During one of her forays into Europe, she happened upon Blue Castle, the ancestral home of the Valentine vampires. She was ecstatic to find Jean-Baptiste Valentine, experiencing her first encounter with a true vampire... though her excitement fell flat upon learning that this mysterious creature of the night is a huge fan of Project Runway.

Harmonixer - Like others of her bloodline, Esme is capable of fusing with powerful demons and spirits in order to draw upon their strength. Literally having demons in her head, however, takes a toll on her sanity, and calling them forth is difficult to maintain for long periods of time. The longer she's fused with a demon, the more it wears on her sanity and if she fails to dismiss the spirit in a timely fashion, she's likely to have a psychotic breakdown that could last anywhere from a half hour to several days. Since Esme isn't fully trained, she has not acquired the more powerful spirits.

Sorm - Greater earth spirit born from the challenge-seeking soul. with the ancient power and energy of rock and mineral, it resists any who would do evil. Sorm.

  • Shield: A wall of earth shields the target, absorbing a moderate amount of physical damage.
  • Crag: A crag of earth juts up from the ground, damaging a target.
  • Thorn: A row of thorns rises up from the ground to damage and ensnare nearby enemies.

Mahrae - Dragon-like Ocean spirit that resonates with souls possessed of great self-control. It can cleanse the world by summoning the power of icy waters from far away. Mahrae.

  • Splash: A wave of water knocks a foe down and deals damage.
  • Cure Plus: Restores a moderate amount of health to one ally.
  • Icicle: A shower of icicles rain down on nearby opponents.

Barbaria - Greater Fire spirit summoned by the by the soul that walks its own path no matter what the situation. Anything that touches its fiery armor is scorched. Barbaria.

  • Charge: Charges up the spirit's physical strength to apply to the next attack.
  • Blaze: A plume of flame is called down upon one foe.
  • Magma: A sea of magma envelops nearby foes.

Grano - Greater wind spirit born by the soul that loves the wild open sky. Freed from the earth, it dances majestically in the sky before speeding off to battle. Grano.

  • Howling: A foe is buffeted by relentless wind, dealing damage.
  • Slash: A powerful strike with Grano's talons that causes air damage.
  • Flight: This form is capable of flight.

Puera - Greater Angel of light manifested by a virtuous soul that doesn't flinch from evil. With the power of God's judgement, it smites the forces of darkness. Puera.

  • Heaven: A beam of holy light shines down from heaven, smiting a foe.
  • Nova: A holy nova explodes around Puera, damaging nearby foes.

Orexis - Greater dark angel born from the darkness and malice in a harmonixer's soul. It grants massive destructive power to those who never yield in combat. Orexis.

  • Hell's Eye: A beam of darkness knocks a foe off its feet.
  • Dark Claw: Orexis slashes powerfully, inflicting darkness damage.
  • Flight: This form is capable of flight.

Omoi - A demon that was feeding off of the negative energy of the Inn, born of the power of Belle's Shi Shi Hokudan.

  • Dreamsending - Omoi can speak to others while they're dreaming, so long as the dreamer is relatively local.
  • Dreamweaver - Through Omoi, Riot can fully control her own dreams.


Natural Channel (3): You have a natural connection to the spirit world. Spirits are also more likely to act favorably toward you.

Iron Will (5): You cannot be mind-controlled easily, and getting you to surrender is borderline impossible. When magical (or other) mind-control is attempted on you, both roll and you get a +3 bonus to your roll. It's possible to do it, but you'll fight it with every fiber of your being, and will not stay in thrall very long.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!
Nightmares (1): You're constantly plagued by nightmares, which at the worst may indicate there's something nasty in your fate, and at the least will make you cranky and irritable most of the time. A particularly bad night may cause you to have a -1 penalty on all rolls.
Compulsive Speech (aka Big Mouth) (1): For whatever reason, you have difficulty sticking to the rule, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all." 1 point makes you talkative and a bit blunt; 2 points makes you a complete prick.
Isolated Upbringing (1): You were raised in your supernatural society, or were somehow otherwise sequestered away from "normal" life, so you have trouble dealing with this Outside-World thing. Dealing with any community outside the one in which you were raised raises a -1 Penalty on Social rolls, when RP'ing accomodates it.
Otherworldly Taint (2): You have an odd aura about you which may make you stick out. Someone who suspects you're not "normal" may make an Alertness roll, difficulty 7, to determine what you are.
Geas (3): Due to an ancient or not-so-ancient pact, or oath made during initiation into something, you have a supernatural taboo placed upon you. If you break it, you may be cursed for life, or lose your powers, or something else bad will happen. A 3-point geas will unlikely affect your everyday life; a 7-point geas is one where risk of breaking must be watched constantly.
