Appearance

Mireya stands 5'6" tall, with her long, chocolate brown hair scuttling down her back in shiny waves. Her skin is a pale bronze color. No matter what else she wears, a ruby red pendant hangs just beneath her collar-bone. She enjoys wearing tight, though rugged, clothing. Sometimes will spend a day in PJs if she has a day to herself. When she's working in the field, her hair will usually be pulled back into a ponytail.

Personality

Adventerous. Mireya loves seeking out new adventures, and loves learning about the new experiences just as much. She is generally encouraging to others when it comes to the adventures, but vastly prefers the research be left to her. When she's busy researching in preparation, she tends to be very withdrawn and isolated. When there is nothing going on, though, quite the opposite can occur, and she will start picking everyone's brains for ideas or leads.

Background

Born on a small, Spanish island to a pastor, Mireya grew up in a strict Catholic household. However, that didn't stop her from seeing spirits. It wasn't until she was older that she realized these spirits were more than just her imagination, that they were real manifestations on this earth. She tried telling her mother about it, once, and seeing her mother's horrified reaction, decided never to speak of it again.

When she grew older, she would run across a man who had the same ability as her. Though he couldn't answer her questions in-depth, he did affirm that what she's seeing are ghosts, caught in important moments of their lives.

That's when Mireya began researching spirits, though secretly from her parents. She also began to try interacting with them, and discovering that they could also interact with her. Not only that, but she could also coax some to move on with the right words.

When she began college, she studied on the mainland, and met Professor Vidal Gonzalez, her teacher of Spain's Haunted History, and a ghost hunter. After a while, she convinced him to allow her to tag along on a ghost hunting trip.

The trip was to an inn in rural Spain that was haunted by a woman who kept herself mostly to one of the bedrooms. The ghost hunters really didn't need to do much, as the ghost was docile and wouldn't harm anyone (hence why Mireya was allowed along.) The innkeepers just wanted some reassurance, and as a thank you to the ghost hunting group, gifted them some of the jewelry that had been kept in a box in that bedroom. Mireya got a ruby necklace.

After that, Mireya focused more time on ghosts, and delved further into the paranormal world. Her parents eventually cut ties with her because they did not accept what she was doing.

Mireya began hunting the paranormal, mostly with Professor Gonzalez at first, but then branching out into other groups and fields, and occasionally going out on her own.

Throughout her journeys, she's picked up a thing or two about protecting herself from the enemies she may be facing, and has earned herself quite a collection of mementos- both useful and sentimental.

Special Abilities

(These are skills, things that can be learned or trained, like martial arts techniques, Jutsu or magic spells. Abilities that are outside the norm of regular humans, but only because they have not had access to them.)

Magic

Warding Circle - Although it takes some time to set up, Mireya can create a protective circle that does not allow ghosts of any type to cross over.

Flash of Light - After reciting a Latin Phrase, Mireya will become engulfed in a flash of light bright enough to light the darkest cavern. It only lasts for a few seconds- long enough to drive back/stun anything attacking. Phrase: Corpus Lumen (Roughly Translated: Body of Light)

Compulsion - Works on demons only. When a certain demonic phrase is uttered, the demon is beheld to do as Mireya says. As Mireya's willpower is not too strong, any distractions will break the compulsion- she generally orders demons to go back to their original plane of existence. Phrase: Eflo Al (Roughly Translated: Obey Me)

Astral Walking/Communication - While asleep, Mireya leaves her body and goes on a walk in the astral plane. While there, she can interact with other creatures in other planes, regardless of language. Usually does this to seek information on a current investigation. Not always safe.

Binding - When a hostile spirit refuses to move on, she will bind it to any number of random items she may be carrying- even a button on her own coat pocket. Later, she will deposit the item into a location no one will casually venture across. However, she is still a novice at this particular magic, and cannot bind any strong-willed spirits yet. And, in case it comes up, can only bind one at a time.

Dragon Sight - When Mireya speaks a certain command in the draconic tongue, her eyes will begin glowing purple. Any sentient being who heard the command will unconsciously begin emitting a purple aura that will allow Mireya to see them. Even people who are cloaked in shadows, and hidden spirits who have the ability to interact with objects will be able to be seen- so long as there are no physical objects (bookcases) in the way. Lasts until dispelled. Side effect: Mireya's vision is blurry afterwards, for as long as she had the Dragon Sight active. Phrase: Toma Putole Toma (Roughly Translated: Sight Beyond Sight)

Powers & Merits

(Unique, or hereditary, in-born powers, whether due to genetics or magic, things that can't be taught to others or simply gifted to this person from an outside force. Powers based on weapons should go in the Items. Merits can also go here.)

Ghost Interaction

For some unknown reason, Mireya has the ability to interact and communicate with ghosts and other spiritual beings. Most ghosts are uncomfortable talking with strangers, but she's usually able to get through to them. Aside from general conversation, there are a couple of benefits to knowing she can communicate with them.

Coax - Not all ghosts belong, or are comfortable, in this plane. So, sometimes Mireya will try and coax a ghost into moving on to the afterlife. Sometimes it works. Sometimes, it prompts ghosts to enrage and attack her.

Request - Mireya doesn't like the word "Command." However, should she be in an area with more than one type of paranormal entity, she can usually request a nearby ghost to assist her in escaping any danger she may be in. Doesn't always work.

Grappling - If a ghost can make itself corporeal enough to attack her- such as a poltergeist- she can actually fight back if she knows what and where to grab. This is usually done when in combination with dragon sight and binding.

Merits

Clear Sighted (3): She is not easily fooled by illusions, and she gets an Alertness roll to see through illusions, Difficulty 7, any time she faces one.

Medium (2): Mireya has the ability to see and interact with ghosts. Sometimes, the Restless may seek her out for favors. Depending on the ghosts, this could be a very good or very bad thing.

Natural Channel (3): She has a natural connection to the spirit world. Spirits are also more likely to act favorably toward her.

Occult Library (2): She owns a decent collection of works on arcane lore, and if she has access to it, can lower difficulties/add dice when trying to solve an occult mystery and/or generally learn more about the occult. Having this library doesn't automatically mean she's an occult expert; it just means she has convenient access to some knowledge.

Unique Items

(Madougu, magical weapons or other unique or special weapons, as well as all techniques related to them, as without it technically the character is NOT able to use these abilities.)

Ruby Pendant - This pendant is actually bound to the spirit, Beatriz, whom Mireya first helped to "hunt." Beatriz is a protective spirit, though decides when she wants to protect Mireya. When she does, she forms an ethereal bubble around her, which only softens the blow of physical attacks, but will completly absorb anything non-physical. Once that happens, Beatriz needs time to recover before she can form another bubble (approx 10m game-time, 30m rl-time), if she does it again. High pitched noises (ex. bird chirps, whistles, etc.) will make the barrier weaken. Beatriz can also make herself known to others, in a humanoid form, if she so chooses.

Holy Water (10 vials) - Water imbued with holy energy.

Mini Silver Crosses (3) - Pocket-sized crosses made from pure silver. Often used as a binding agent, they can occasionally have other uses.

Liquid Fire (1 flask) - Kept in a small, heavy-duty flask, it starts off as a water-like liquid, but when set aflame, it becomes more potent than napalm. Even if not ignited, the liquid will slowly roast whatever it is touching, until it is washed/scoured off. Used in case of emergency.

Other odds and ends that aren't typically carried on her are back at her apartment... in Italy.

Items Of Note

Stun Gun and Handgun (Beretta 92), for the human element.

CapsuleCorp Capsule: Stores anything inside. Currently empty.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!

Curiosity (2): Her incredible curiosity often overrides her common sense. Resisting temptation requires a successful Wits roll, difficulty depending on the situation.

Soft-hearted (1): She can't stand to witness suffering, and if she does, all her rolls are at -2 penalty for the next hour.

Graceless (2): She always looks awkward, no matter what she's doing. -2 Penalty when trying to make an impression.

Low Self-Image (2): Stemming from her childhood, Mireya suffers from low self-esteem. Any social rolls (where she needs to be assertive or sure of herself) have a -2 penalty.

Mistaken Identity (1): It doesn't come up often, but when Mireya discusses her hobbies and profession, people will either assume she's a demon hunter or one of the kookie house-sitter ghost hunters. It annoys.

Obsession (1): Mireya is obsessed with anything to do with the paranormal and the occult. If you talk about it, she will listen, to the detriment of any other (non-obsession-related) task she may be doing. She will sit down and watch 3 hours of supernatural mysteries, given the chance.

Dragon Sight (2): While Dragon Sight is useful for situational purposes, it also causes Mireya's eyesight to become blurred. However long she used the Dragon Sight for, it will take her that long for her eyes to recover. Completely negates Clear Sighted and -2 penalty on any rolls requiring eyesight for the duration.

NPC(s) to go with char

Beatriz - Died approximately 50 years ago while protecting her children from violent thieves (the kids survived, btw.) Now, her spirit is bound to the red ruby necklace she was wearing when it happened. She will sometimes make herself shown to others, but does not do well with crude, ill-mannered behavior. Otherwise, when she is in her incorporeal state, she is virtually undetectable.
