Appearance

A rather short young man even at the end of his growing time, Tristan has his father's smooth features and yellow eyes while retaining the naturally blonde hair of both of his parents. He is very well-built for his size, and is very limber and athletic looking. He prefers to wear semi-professional, popped-collar clothes and carries himself as if he were twice his own height. Without doubt, though, he can always be counted on to be wearing an ankle length, billowing coat over his other clothes, with a scarlet serpent's cross made into the back of it.

Personality

Destined to be brilliant by bloodline, Tristan has an uncanny intellect and can be counted on to think of himself higher than most others at any given time, whether or not it's true. He is, however, very reliable and trustworthy once the popped collar and aviator attitude is put aside. He is also slightly on the violent side, and is prone to fits of frustration or anger that will usually be vented out on someone else. However, unlike his father, he is not ashamed of his height, and will more than gladly shrug off any jabs about it rather than lash out.

Background

Born after the wedding of Edward Elric to Winry Rockbell, his lifelong friend and companion, Tristan Elric was raised in their hometown of Risembool, a tiny village away from the bustle of normal city life. With his father's Alchemy powers completely removed after his numerous adventures in search of the Philosopher's Stone, Edward was only able to pass down legitimate teachings of the art to his son, who was mor ethan happy to learn them as a child growing up. He was also heavily exposed to his mother's generation of the Rockbell Automail engineering dynasty, and oftentimes would combine the two to help either of his parents at different times ... which would often frustrate them both for alternating reasons (using Alchemy in place of machines, using machines in place of Alchemy) and would land Tristan in the middle of a yelling match between the two, which would almost always deteriorate into nothingness rather quickly.

With such an "exciting" childhood and enthralled by both his parents' and his uncle's stories about the world around them and the past, it was little wonder that as soon as he was able to walk to school on his own, Tristan was often ... not there, and was instead off exploring the countryside or takign public transit into other cities, which would only land in him yet another yelling fight between his parents -- including him this time though -- that would again deteriorate into nothing before being repeated sometime within the next few days. Always in search of "the next big thing" for himself, Tristan would often get into fights with other children or even older people ... which eventually spurred his uncle into teaching him the heavy martial arts that Alphonse himself had learned from his teacher, Izumi Curtis, in order to protect himself. However, this only allowed Tristan far more than self-defense, and he would soon enact revenge on those who he had felt scorned him.

After finishing his State-mandated schooling, Tristan -- now a teenager -- set out on his own journey across Arnestris, with his parents' blessings (and of course their concern), and thus began to explore the great big world, keeping only the items and clothes he could carry with him at any time. He loved the lifestyle of scraping by -- it challenged him, and with his Alchemy, he was never for true want, and it was always good to make money, especially when he could cash in his father's name in areas all over the nation of Arnestris ... though it of course also caused more problems for him as well, as others burned in the past would often seek to take their loss out on Elric's son instead of him himself.

While researching Alchemy in a lost, personal library in a small town near the Drachma-Amestrian border left behind by the retreat after a brief Drachma-Amestrian conflict when he was a child, Tristan discovers a unique teleportation technique that he attempts to use... only to be taken somewhere where he never expected.

Special Abilities

Martial Arts - Tristan is a well-educated hand-to-hand and impromptu weapon fighter, often preferring staff- or spear-like weapons when fighting with them.

Powers

Alchemy - Tristan has teh ability to transmute one object into another using the laws of Equivalent Exchange and Transmutation Circles. He is extremely adept at it, but unlike his father, requires a precreated transmutation circle in order to perform any kind of Alchemic reaction. In order to make up for this, however, Tristan often carries multiple objects in his pockets in order to use as instantaneous reactions.

Merits

  • Gall (2): You got moxy, kid. You get a +1 bonus to any Social roll requiring backbone.
  • Lightning Calculator (1): You have a natural affinity for numbers. +1 bonus when relevant.
  • Concentration (1): You are very good at focusing, and suffer no penalty for distractions, stress or having to repeat yourself often.
  • Daredevil (3): You love to take risks, and are damn good at living through them. +2 Bonus when risking your life. This actually stacks with other merits (like Crack Driver), so you can be extremely good at risking your life. ...but if you fail you might die, so..

Unique Items

None.

Items Of Note

  • Smoke Grenades - A prepackaged contraption of numerous items squeezed together in a convenient package with a transmutation circle on it. When activated, this circle acts as a catalyst to combust the ingredients and cause a quickly forming, thick cloud of smoke to serve as a diversion, a cover, or a signal.
  • Incendiary Grenades - A prepackaged contraption made of highly flammable but naturally inert materials with a transmutation circle on the outside of it. When activated, these devices will cause a rather strong explosion and will ignite nearby things.
  • Stun Grenades - Inert elements are placed together in a hand-sized package and a transmutation circle is applied to it. When activated, this contraption creates a bright flash and a loud 'bang' sound to stun and disorient those in the area.
  • Weapon Material - An unnaturally compact block of mixed steel and wood disguised as a fully-functioning rubix cube, this material has a transmutation circle on each side of it, each one allowing for it to create a different type of weapon once activated.
    • Spear x2
    • Sword
    • Gauntlet x2
    • Double-ended staff

Weaknesses

Tristan's weaknesses are easily classified as Flaws. He is, however, "only human" as others like to say, and is able tod ie like anyone else.

Flaws

  • Compulsive Speech (aka Big Mouth) (1): For whatever reason, you have difficulty sticking to the rule, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all." 1 point makes you talkative and a bit blunt; 2 points makes you a complete prick.
  • Overconfident (1): You think you can do everything even though you probably can't, and you try to prove your belief as often as possible.
  • Conditional Magic (2): There is a condition set to the functionality of your magical effects; they may work better or worse depending on certain circumstances, e.g. time of day, who you're doing the magic on, etc. Bonuses and Penalties can vary from -3 to +3 according to the circumstance; the degree of the merit or flaw depends upon how rare or common the circumstance is. Example: Your 'Curse' spell can only affect men (1pt), or white men (2pt) or blonde white men (3pt).
    • Tristan's Alchemy absolutely requires the use of a transmutation circle to be made beforehand. If one is not prepared -- i.e. on a predetermined item or drawn in an in-character action -- then Alchemy cannot be performed.
    • Some transmutation circles are more complicated than others and may require dedicated time to prepare, ranging from a couple of seconds to years in order to prepare the ultimate transmutation circle. However, when complicated circles, arrays, and arrays of arrays are prepared properly, the results can be phenomenal.
