Appearance
Looks pretty much exactly like Aya Brea though she keeps her hair a little longer, more like how Aya had it in the first Parasite Eve game. Maya also likes to wear casual attire when she's not working, torn jeans and t-shirts. When she's working she has her Umbrella Corp. body armor and sneak suit.
Personality
Good ol' gal. She's very by the book but when she's not working, she's fairly sociable -- if a little snarky when the moment is right. Maya is also very professional when she's working and self-sacrificing. She'll do whatever it takes to protect the human race, much like her clone mother, Aya. Despite her combat training and not much interaction with children, Maya has a very maternal-like attitude with kids.
Maya also feels somewhat alienated, being so different from everyone else with her superhuman mitochondria abilities. At times, she considers herself a monster; fearing of becoming the monster that she fights almost everyday, and the fear of hurting the people she is trying to protect. For that reason, and the fact that her Parasite Energy had a way of making the people around her uncomfortable, Maya doesn’t make a habit out of using her powers in front of other people unless it's necessary or working.
Background
Maya Brea did not have the beginning of a typical child. Aya Brea, her genetic mother, had a few copies made of her because of her mitochondria phenomena and one of those clones was left behind in one of the research facilities in Nevada. As Aya, Kyle, and Eve (another clone) had fled.. Maya was left behind without anyone being aware of her presence at the time. This soon changed as Umbrella stumbled upon the same facility and raided it.. and none other than Albert Wesker, one of the Umbrella Scientists, was able to reclaim Maya and take her with him.
Maya was able to grow as any normal child could, however, she had the same mitochondria gifts that Aya had which made her a precious commodity to Wesker. Maya didn't remember anything except for the memories the original Maya Brea had up until the car accident the original Maya had at seven years old. Maya remembered the hospital.. and other things.. a flash of a twin looking girl, but rather pieces of a puzzle than the whole picture. Maya's questions were always answered by Wesker and she was told that her gifts and abilities could be used to help and save people. Maya was then groomed and trained to become one of Umbrella's top agents, often going on clean-up missions to dispose of bioweapon outbreaks that Umbrella was originally responsible for.. but Maya was never told that. Maya did her job, because like Aya.. saving humanity was the most important thing.
Wesker continued to communicate with Maya even after his death via AI system and Maya was constantly undergoing blood work so that Umbrella could try to harness the power of her Mitochondria DNA. Most of the experiments were fruitless until a new drug being available on the black market was brought to light. A paramilitary organization who had gotten the drug and was offering to sell some of it to the highest bidder gave some to Umbrella.. and then Umbrella used a form of it on Maya. The effect caused Maya to become more controlled, as Umbrella wished.. however it also reset all of her Mitochondria abilities.
Unfortunately, during the same time frame that this experiment happened.. the MIST organization raided the facility that Maya was stationed at. MIST was able to apprehend the Umbrella operatives and also reacquire Maya. The MIST organization head, Rupert Broderick, decided it was best to actually send Maya to PARADIGM.. as he knew that Maya's presence would be very delicate and dangerous if she stayed with Kyle and Aya. Being told the truth of what Umbrella was really doing was devastating, but Maya did not want to stop helping people.. especially if there were more dangers out there. Hearing that PARADIGM would be the place to help protect humanity, Maya agreed to sign on.

Powers & Merits
(Unique, or hereditary, in-born powers, whether due to genetics or magic, things that can't be taught to others or simply gifted to this person from an outside force. Powers based on weapons should go in the Items. Merits can also go here.)
Parasite Abilities
- Heal Liberated
- PE Cost: Very Small
- Effect: Heals Maya's wounds, the stronger the heal, the more Parasite Energy it takes.
- Scan Liberated
- PE Cost: Very Small

- Slow Liberated
- PE Cost: Small
- Effect: Slows the enemy's movement and attacking speed.
- Detox Liberated
- PE Cost: Small
- Effect: Cures poison
- Barrier Liberated
- PE Cost: 40% of her PE.
- Effect: Enemies attacks take her PE instead her body (roughly two hits, if it's a strong attack it'll blow through it and hurt Maya but not as bad as it would with the barrier present).
- Energy Shot Liberated
- PE Cost: All remaining PE
- Effect: Maya uses all her remaining PE into a large blast that devastates the opponent.
- Confuse Liberated
- PE Cost: Small
- Effect: Confuses enemy and prevents them from attacking
- Haste Liberate

- Medic Liberate

- Preraise Liberate
- PE Cost: Very Large

- Full Recover Liberate

- Liberate Subdued
- PE Cost: All
- Effect: Liberates Mitochondrial Control. When used, Maya becomes a powerful blue-green mitochondrial creature with wing-like appendages sprouting from her arms. This is her best attack as she releases an extremely powerful combo. Although the damage varies, Maya will always deal a devastating worth of damage (this is split between targets if there is more than one enemy present). Its only drawback other than completely emptying her PE is that it leaves her dizzy for three seconds after she reverts to human form and it can leave her in a defenseless position during battles.
Merits
- Code of Honor (1): You follow a strict personal code, and any attempt to make you break it or act against it via magic or other unnatural coercion (regular coercion is basically impossible) is done with an opposed roll in which you have a +2 bonus. You must write down your code of honor with a GM, and it must be followed at all times. If you break it for frivolous or even worthy reasons, you risk losing your bonuses, because a Code is to be followed for good or ill. Maya's code is as follows:
- "Fight for humanity"
- "Protect the innocent"
- "Uphold the law"
- Graceful (2): You are extremely agile and delicate in your movements. +1 Bonus on all Athletics rolls.
- Well-Traveled (3): You are knowledgeable of the ways of the world from your travels and studies. Once per mission, you can roll against a difficulty 6 (just a die roll, no modifiers). If successful, the GM tells you information about the situation if it makes sense. (I.E., someone from Final Fantasy 4 world may have heard about the Eidolons and the Feymarch or the Red Moon, but probably wouldn't have heard about the Hellsing Organization.) Maya's been all over the world.. from Africa, to the Americas, to Europe.. and so on due to her clean-up missions with Umbrella.
- Danger Sense (3): "Oh no! My Spider Senses are tingling!" A successful Alertness roll, difficulty depending on the situation, will give you a timely sense of foreboding before something bad happens... Maya's Mitochondria gives her a little danger sense before an encounter.
- Double-Jointed (1): Athletics rolls involving escape or dis-entangling are at -1 Difficulty.
Unique Items
(Madougu, magical weapons or other unique or special weapons, as well as all techniques related to them, as without it technically the character is NOT able to use these abilities.)
None.
Items Of Note
Umbrella standard guns and gear.
- Steyr TMP Sub Machine Gun
- Heckler and Koch USP Handgun with LAM (Laser Aiming Module)
- Combat Knife
- USS Field Uniform (Black fatigues, face mask, and a flak vest)
- Night Vision Goggles
Weaknesses & Flaws
Flaws can go here. Balance is key!
Maya's Mitochondria abilities always require Parasite Energy, if she is depleted of that she cannot use them. Also, if she uses Liberate she becomes dizzy and is open to attacks for a few seconds.
Flaws
- Amnesia (2): You have no memory of your past, or at least are missing a significant portion of it. You have the option of taking up to 5 points of extra flaws to be determined by the GM (you don't get to find out about them till you're playing...). Maya only has bits and pieces of her clone background.. she does not remember Aya or how she originally got involved with Umbrella. She just knows she was put there to help stop monsters.
- Flashbacks (3): When under pressure and/or in the presence of something which reminds you of something unpleasant in your past, you flashback to that past event. Whilst in a flashback, everything to you is as it was then. Being in hospitals gives Maya flashbacks of having a car accident and being operated on.
- Mistaken Identity (1): People think you're someone you're not; even if that person isn't bad, it can still cause you trouble if they realize you're not who they think you are. Maya is a clone of the original Maya Brea. ...and also the twin of Aya Brea. She can get mistaken easily for either..
- Notoriety (3): You did something, or at least others think you did, that is frowned upon by your peers and elders. -2 Penalty on Social rolls with your personal group. Maya spent most of her life working for Umbrella and exhibiting properties of being a Bio Weapon. ..that kind of makes her not liked by some Anti-Terrorist organizations...
