Appearance

Possessing a naturally broad posture, Kaijo has wide shoulders and a strongly built frame, with rigorously physically trained and lean muscles. He stands tall typically and is shameless of his physique despite his style of dress. He has a tanned complexion with a well-defined jawline and sharp eyes shadowed by his hair, and can almost always be found grinning or smiling for one reason or another. One of the most defining features of his face is his eyes, which seem to crackle with some sort of static randomly.

His clothing almost always consists of black on black on black in some fashion. His standard wear is a set of black, shin-height boots, black gloves, black, loose leather-like pants with a black belt, and without a shirt, though he does wear a large, billowing ankle-length black cloak over his body, shrouding and ambiguitizing it considerably. The cloak is uniquely shaped in a cut resembling a laboratory coat, but has a long zipper in the front of it running from mid-thigh to the collar, as well as two silver, weighted chains that go into the hood of the cloak that can be worn up over the face and head.

Personality

Kaijo has a very flirtatious personality, and while this is usually something that is noted first about him, beyond that he is rather intelligent, possessing a modicum of knowledge about many things, though specializing in chemistry and firearms. He is extremely laid-back about many things, having a very lax outlook on life and many situations. He typically likes to stay busy, and has a voracious appetite.

He is, however, extremely protective of any he considers a friend, fully ready to protect and fight for them at a moment's notice ... and while he would always prefer to talk down a situation, experience has shown that that's not always possible.

Born to a shopowner and his wife in Upper Junon soon after the completion of the upper city and the Junon Cannon, Kaijo Phanex is the older of two brothers by seven years. Because his parents were not officially aligned with the Shinra Electric Power Company, Incorporated, they were not very well-off and were forced to struggle for every cent and lived in the floor above their storefront -- like many others in the area -- while attempting to put their oldest through school. As a child, however, Kaijo was very explorative and would often leave Upper Junon to return to Lower Junon, to swim in the ocean despite its pollution with his friends. It was here that a freak accident occurred, involving the high-voltage support tower leading from the ocean up to Upper Junon, in which Kaijo's body was subjected to extremely high voltage and electrocuted. However, rather than simply being burnt alive or instantly killed, he somehow survived and was instead given a sort of 'natural charge' to his body, similar in theory to that of a rechargeable battery. After recovering from the experience, his life was mostly normal ... save for an increased appetite, a higher metabolism rate, and the unusual spark-like quality to his eyes.

Wowed by the stories of the up-and-coming SOLDIER program in Midgar and especially of the great Sephiroth, Kaijo saw an opportunity to secure his family's future and enrolled in the Shinra Electric Power Company's Security Department at the ripe age of 14 and volunteered for scouting by the Turks. However, he was deemed incompatible for the Mako showering procedures required for induction into SOLDIER and was declined; instead, he was placed into the company's Airborne Infantry division and trained in the use and effectiveness of the company's airships and aircraft, including the up-and-coming Gelnika line of troop transports. Starting with his first paycheck, Kaijo began supporting his family's well-being and his brother's education, sending a good portion of it to them every time.

Kaijo was sixteen when the Wutai War broke out between the sovereign nation of Wutai and the Shinra Electric Power Company, and participated in the conflict for the entire four years. He completed many missions and countless drops into the enemy-controlled island before escaping again, and his performance in the war earned him several commendations and a commission into the Junon Military Academy. While attending for two years, he was able to stay in touch with his family, and was better able to assist them, especially his younger brother who was able to gain further education thanks to the paychecks from the Shinra Corporation. After graduating from the Academy at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, Phanex was thrust back into service in the Airborne and conducted three years of anti-ecoterrorist operations, including assaults against AVALANCHE locations.

However, when the threat of the Heartless showed itself to the world of Gaia, it was sealed off and cut away from other portions of reality, displacing himself and many others into different parts of the universe thanks to the magics of an unknown entity at the time. While Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Sephiroth, and others went elsewhere -- Traverse Town, namely -- he was sent to the world of Hollow Bastion, where he 'made the best' of his situation for a couple of years, until the threat of the Heartless was once again sealed by the efforts of Sora and Riku, and Hollow Bastion had been restored to its previous glory and name, Radiant Gardens. Afterwards, he was taken with Cloud and the others back to Sora and Riku's original home of Destiny Islands, where Kaijo met many other displaced people from his world and was able to continue his life there rather than return to the unlocked Gaia.

It was here that, after several catastrophes that had befallen the Islands that showed there were more threats than just Heartless in the universe, Kaijo was inducted into the newly reformed group known as Organization XIII, formerly made up of a rather sinister group of beings known as Nobodies. The name was shortened to simply 'The Organization', and represented only ten members who would guide the other willing denizens of the islands in combating these malicious forces. It was this group of people that took Kaijo's natural electric charge and amplified it through various means, allowing him direct control over internal electric energy.

Now, as a full member of the Organization, Kaijo is constantly scouting the different, various worlds across the universe, independently of the others, to ensure above all else that the Heartless do not return as a threat, and to a lesser extent, to protect worlds from other, external threats similar to them.

Special Abilities

Gunslinging - the ability and awareness of one's surroundings enough to accurately fight with two handguns simultaneously in a very flashy fashion. This showmanship has been refined into a very deadly two-handed style of fighting, including firing in two opposite directions with pinpoint accuracy at a high speed. It heavily resembles the gunslinging style used by Dante, including...

  • Twosome Time - By using different, active poses, can fire in two different directions and track multiple targets independently without any negatives.
  • Honeycomb Fire - A reinforced posture is used to intensely focus a hailstorm of ammunition into a single target.

Powers & Merits

Natural Charge - By having mutated mitrochondria thanks to the effect of an electrocution inside of Mako-poisoned waters, Kaijo's body produces energy at an extremely increased rate. This manifests in the form of bioelectric energy, which is formed into pure, natural electricity with focus and concentration.

  • Electric Touch - Electricity can be discharged through different parts of the body.
  • Increased Energy - The increased metabolism and higher energy content contained within each individual cell in his body allows for this energy to be focused into muscles, providing greater speed or strength at the severe cost of exhaustion.
  • Lightning Bolt - Fires a blast of electric energy toward a single target, can be at great range with line-of-sight.
  • Megavolt - Uses a series of knives thrown in a circular pattern to conduct a blast of electricity between them for an area-of-effect attack.
  • Shock Value - Forms a hemispherical dome of energy emanating outward from the user's center-of-mass to a range of a couple meters, a reactionary ability intended to interrupt combo attacks or force enemies out of melee range. Has a high chance of stunlock.


The natural drawback to the use of these is the requirement on the body it takes; it literally uses the body's physical energy to do so, and thus requires a high caloric intake and a lot of rest. He will eat and sleep a lot.

Darkness - The Darkness in Kaijo's Heart has permeated itself in his being thanks to his laid-back personality, and while he indulges in things that often make this threat to his existence grow, he has learned to simply accept it and is able to continue functioning without succumbing to it thanks to a hard-trained willpower.

  • Corridors of Darkness - The ability to open a pathway into, through, and out of the Realm of Darkness that surrounds existence. This allows for point-to-point movement across any distance... however, it is quite easy to block this ability by simply erecting a strong enough barrier.
  • Dark Aura - Allows a user to teleport rapidly from place to place inside a relatively small area in rapid succession, seemingly at random, only partially entering and exiting Corridors of Darkness to attack or interact with the environment, only to return to the same place it originated.
  • Dark Aura II - Allows a user to manifest a surge of Darkness and use it as a well of projectiles, the energy manifesting in the air in shapes like comets to center on and collide with a single target.

Acute Senses (Vision) (1): One of your five senses is incredibly sharp, and Alertness rolls involving this sense have a +1 Bonus. You must buy this merit separately for each sense.

Well-Traveled (3): You are knowledgeable of the ways of the world from your travels and studies. Once per mission, you can roll against a difficulty 6 (just a die roll, no modifiers). If successful, the GM tells you information about the situation if it makes sense.

Honeyed Tongue (2): You've sold gallons of snake oil and thousands of deeds to the Brooklyn Bridge, and most customers still think they're satisfied. All subterfuge attempts gain +1 Bonus. +2 if played out cleverly.

Unique Items

Blood Arcs - A set of two large-caliber handguns. These weapons are identical to each other save for the reversed ejection port on one weapon, allowing both to be fired and eject rounds to the outside of the user. With long, compensated barrels and heavily reinforced bodies, the handles are inlaid with scarlet in the color of blood. Designed and carried by an artificially created clone of Phanex during his time with the Organization, these weapons were used to murder many before their bodies were consumed to satisfy the maddened clone's need for sustenance, to support its bolstered energy outputs. They never seem to run out of ammunition ...

Organization Cloak - A black cloak made in the shape of a laboratory coat and imbued with the power of Darkness. This cloak is able to magically shroud the user from Darkness, most notably in the use of Corridors of Darkness. It also provides an extent of both physical and magical defense, but is by no means to be used against a machine gun or a trained mage.

Tarot Card: The Broken Heart

If the Tarot card's user is in dire need and under specific circumstances, The tarot card Hero will grant assistance to them with their fight. When the tarot card Hero appears, they are a shadowed out figure that hovers behind or beside their user.. the Hero can only be visible when casting or attacking, otherwise only magic users or spiritualists will be able to see them.

  • The Broken Heart - Kaijo pulled the fortune of The Broken Heart champion, Kenshiro. Kenshiro is a powerful martial artist and is the rightful successor of an ancient art of assassination called Hokuto Shinken. Currently Kenshiro only offers one attack for Kaijo:
    • Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken - Meaning North Star Hundred Crack Fist. Kenshiro's trademark technique, in which Ken strikes the opponent's body with a relentless flurry of punches.
    • Tenha Kassatsu - The second tarot ability. Kenshiro appears and performs an AOE attack that forms a big dipper in the ground and explodes everything inside it.
  • Rubber Chicken Glider - When falling from a considerable height, if equipped and taken, the glider will trigger! Allowing the user to gently float down to the ground.
  • Battle Royale Crown - Head glows whenever this is equipped. Received in Mission #287.




Weaknesses & Flaws

Deep Sleeper (1): Waking up is hard; getting you moving is hard enough (-2 on all rolls to wake up), getting you comprehending what's going on after you're up isn't much easier (Your rolls in the next few minutes.. up to 30 minutes.. are at -1.)

Addiction (Food) (3): You are addicted to some substance, such as caffeine, nicotine, etc. You will start to crave the substance if you don't get it often enough, and have to spend time and money to counter it. The larger the flaw, the more dependent you are on the substance, and the worse things will happen if you don't get what you need. After jonesing for long enough all your rolls are at -1 Penalty. -2 if a three point flaw. A one point flaw will never incur penalties, but you should start RP'ing out how badly you need a drink or smoke and be easily distracted by that very idea.

  • This flaw manifests when Kaijo exerts himself for too long or goes too long without appropriate caloric intake. If he does not eat a considerable amount of calories within a certain amount of time, he will begin to grow tired... then, eventually, will simply shut down and he will pass out. While this is normal human behavior, the time for him is nearly cut in half. While he will not starve at an increased rate, he will simply be asleep for a long period of time before awakening and the need to eat to keep energy is only sated for a short time before he runs the risk of passing out again.
