Appearance

Attractive, slender young man, framed like an intellectual rather than a warrior, wearing dark-themed but sharply designed clothing. He likes to add flair to everything he wears, so he has shoulder pads and a cape to accentuate his magical acumen, in lieu of the long black coat.

Personality

Flamboyant, driven, ambitious and with a bit of a wild streak. Blaze is after the finer things in life. He knows how powerful he is, he knows how smart he is, and he has no qualms about letting others know. He considers himself the most powerful spell caster (to be) in the world and will gladly share this with everyone. He brims with self-confidence and does not see anything a match for his wits or his power. While generally well-meaning, he has joked about taking over the world and making it his own. He is, after all, the Lord of Ipsen castle, and others should treat him as such.

Background

Created after the experiments of a crazy wizard-scientist, Blaze was born into the world with the body of a human but the power of a Black Mage. Due to this, while he was raised among the Black Mage Village, he never really felt like he belonged. He demonstrated a specialty for Fire magic, so when he got old enough to leave.. which is apparently at age 10, somehow.. he took the name Blaze and set out to make a living for himself as the Silver Mage, reflective of his hair and general appearance.
During his travels, he encountered several people and he learned a lot from them, being naturally gifted in magic, and incredibly inquisitive and smart, he developed many skills to survive. Tactics, gamecraft, gambling when he had to, and knowledge. Lots and lots of knowledge. Eventually, he came across Ipsen Castle, an abandoned castle in an abandoned land which used to house a powerful wizard. Obviously, Blaze went in, spells.. heh.. blazing. It wasn't an easy task, but over the course of many months.. maybe even years.. he managed to clear out the castle, room by room, bit by bit, and declared himself the King of Ipsen, intending to forge his name and dynasty from there. Thankfully, the previous inhabitant of the castle had several spellbooks and magical theory items all over, which allowed Blaze to learn the spells he did not have access to, including that wizard's signature spell.

Special Abilities

Staff Combat: Blaze is skilled at using a staff in combat. He can defend himself against armed opponents and even disarm bandits or brigands. He's been known to win a few battles against physical opponents with it. However, this is not his specialty.
Tactician: Blaze is actually very well versed in Tactics and strategy. He knows how to maneuver troops and even a smaller group of people into accomplishing difficult tasks. He works better with a team, despite his loner nature.
Chocobo Riding: Blaze is highly trained at riding, racing, and taking care of Chocobos.

Black Magic: Blaze is a highly skilled Black Mage, raised among the Black Mage Village. He has learned the following Spells.
Elemental Spells

• Fire Line: Blaze's signature magic spells, he has mastered the Fire-elemental spell line all the way to the dreaded and oft-forgotten Firaja.
• Blizzard Line: The ability to use ice elemental magic, from Blizzard to Blizzaga.
• Thunder Line: The ability to use lightning elemental magic, from Thunder to Thundaga.
• Water Line: The ability to use water elemental magic, from Water to Wateraga.
• Bio Line: The ability to use poison elemental magic, from Bio to Bioga.
• Drain Line: The ability to drain the life force of an enemy to restore himself, with Drain and Drainga.
• Dark Line: The ability to use darkness elemental magic, from Dark to Darkga.

Unique Spells

• Ruin: A powerful non-elemental spell, which hits a single target.
• Quake: A powerful Earth-elemental spell, which hits all targets.
• Tornado: A powerful Wind-elemental spell, which hits all targets.
• Freeze: A powerful Ice-elemental spell, which hits a single target, and can leave them paralyzed or slowed.
• Ultima: One of the most powerful black magics, and Kuja's signature move, which hits all targets, and bypasses defenses. Can only be used once before requiring a refill of magic.

Merits

Self-Confident (5pts): AND HOW. Nothing can stand before BLAZE REDGRAVE, the KING OF WIZARDS!!
Gall (2pts): Blaze throws around his swagger like Zangief throws around people without projectiles. Sure, it can be grating, but when he backs it up, and he knows he can, he can get people in a room to believe in the him that believes in himself.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Black Mage: Well for starters he has a limited lifespan. Not really a major roleplay flaw, but it's there. Second, he is all magic, no might. He is physically fit, but not strong, cannot really do a lot of hand to hand or weapon damage, and can't really take too many hits without needing a heal of some sort. He would be the definition of 'Squishy Wizard'. He has little to fear from low level opponents, certainly, but any opponent worth their salt.. well, there better be people to cover him or let him stay in the back of the fight while flinging spells.
Voice Dependent: Blaze needs both focus and his mouth to cast spells. Damaging his ability to speak, or casting 'Silence' on him, will stop him from spell casting. This obviously doesn't need to be magical. Vacuum, sound dampening, or other ways to stop him from talking (like hitting his larynx) are going to stop him from casting spells.

Flaws

Overconfident: No points for this, because Blaze is also Self-Confident. However, that bluster and flexing can bite him in the ass, as he might think this is a job for the King of Wizards, even if it's really more of a job for a Wizard and a Tank.
Isolated Upbringing (1pt): Blaze was raised among black mages. He's been out for a while, but spent most of his time in Ipsen, book-learning. As such, he can behave in social situations, but has some pretty hard conceptions about the world that comes from books and not actual interactions, and he's likely to act like the main character of an adventure book than someone trying to mind other people's feelings.
Compulsive Speech (1pt): Blaze is loud and in charge. He takes command, he speaks his mind, he's quite clear on what he wants, and he (talks like he) knows how to get it! So he'll speak his mind, and the bright will listen!
Offensive to Animals (1pt): Animals hate Blaze. Probably because they know he's their superior and they are just beasts of burden!! but really it's because he's not natural.
Otherworldly Taint (2pt): If Blaze wears a hood, or his face is shadowed out, he has two glowing eyes. Which is why he proudly displays his human face all the time! Also his looks.
